Bigfoot Killer NIC and Nat-Type problem

Post » Thu Apr 14, 2011 9:26 am

Hi,

related to this thread:

http://www.bigfootnetworks.com/killerforums/showthread.php?t=4424

i use a "killer nic xeno pro" and the nat-type is unknown. the game will crash after 2-6maps played and return me to dekstop with the message crysis2.exe has stopped working.

using my onboard nic and the nat-type is moderate and everything runs fine. i tried erverything to fix this problem.

- portforwarding
- DMZ on/off
- tested 2 router
- tested without router (PPPoE-connection)
- without firewall / antivirus
- and of course all the newest drivers

still the same problem. using killer nic causes nat-type:unknown -> crashing the game. all other games runs fine too. its just crysis 2 ; (.

My system:

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.101026-1503)
Mainboard: P5Q-PRO
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Extreme CPU X9650 @ 3.00GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.9GHz
Memory: 6144MB RAM
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460

has someone else a killer nic and this problem or a solution? n33d t3h h3lp : /

I have the Killer NIC M1, and you're not alone :P

Truth be told, I've been having issues with this NIC for a while. Originally bought in 2008; I've had it replaced twice because of a failure to ping or connect to servers while in 'Game Mode'.
I've since managed to fix the issue, but, like you, I have trouble joining C2 MP servers. It only works if I switch to 'App Mode', but point being we want to play using the benefits of LLR technology, said to be possessed by this NIC.

Having read your post, it looks as if you have been able to join games, but crash after 2-6 maps. I am not able to join ONE when in 'Game Mode' LOOL.
We also seem to have similar PC specs. I use Win 7 Home Edition 64 bit; P5Q standard board; C2D E8400 (3.00GHz) CPU; 4GB Ballistix DDR2 RAM.
My gfx card, however, is a 9800GT - a DX10 spec !! The last time I actually crashed and BSOD'ed from C2 was playing the demo. Turned out that two of my RAM modules were faulty when tested using, Memtest !! I had them replaced, and never crashed again. I know you've not mentioned anything about BSODs, but it's worth an investigation.

It is interesting to note that others have had issues connecting, and I suspect most of those use standard NICs. This would suggest that there are general problems with the servers, as so many here can attest to.
As for the NAT type, I have noticed it takes a little longer for C2 to determine mine, while in 'Game Mode', than it would in 'App Mode'. Might be the case that we will have to wait till Crytek/EA decide to tackle this issue at their end.

I got an E8200, P5q-Turbo, 4 Gb, and GTX 580 but C2 runs just great, not problem at all. I can see some bottlenecks but they are few and very short...

this is not a "how fast is your pc thread" ^^.

its about the nat-type problem which we had with killer nic.

I have Killer 2100 and same problem. It's realy not card problem because everything else (EVERYTHING) works just fine - Crysis 2 is just **** console port with broken net code (that's why there isn't any multiplayer Frag compilation - because everyone lags and hit detection is messed up).
Lets bet who will fix it first, creators of Crysis or Bigfoot Networks ... my bets are on Bigfoot.

LOL okay, I'm not too familiar with the Xeno interface. The M1 has three modes; Game - offloads from CPU, and accelerates UDP packets through itself; Application - renders the NIC the same as a standard NIC; Throughput - supposed to enhance file-transfer speeds.
I think the Xeno did away with some of the features found in the M1 and K1, mainly the FNApps.

I think, japkoslav is probably correct in that, it may not be a Killer NIC issue. As such, I doubt Bigfoot Networks can fix it as they do not run any of the C2 servers.
Could suggest it to them, though I feel EA may have hand-picked the providers, and locked it down with some proprietaries, hence why some are having connection issues.

LOL !! Perhaps for some, but in my experience, it did initially work !! No doubt some bought it thinking it could 'fix' a poor connection.
Being a UT99 player I saw my game smooth out, and found it a little easier to hit others. The effects were very subtle, but noticeable. Does this justify the price tag ?? Where the M1 was concerned, probably not :P. Thankfully, I found one at a discount price.
The newer Killer 2100 is at a more attractive price range. Basically a stripped down version of the M1/K1 series, re-designed, and I'm assuming a little more efficient.
