PC Shutdown!

Post » Sat May 07, 2011 6:50 pm

Here's the deal: I've got Crysis 2 today.

Played the campaign for a while, then all of the sudden: the PC shuts down with the HDD light flashing (on the case).
It happened 2 times now, it seems to happen when I play for some while. Note that nothing else is running in the background, except for the regular Vista processes.

Strangely though, no other games do this (I can have Crysis 1 running @ very high shaders, textures, postprocessing and moblur and everything else @ medium - high without any problems, no matter how long do I play it for).

I will try to reinstall the game and install new video card drivers, but I'm not sure if that's the problem...

Temps are fine, even lower than I'd get playing Crysis 1.

*bump*

Used Revo to uninstall Crysis 2, then reinstalled it. Still the same problem...

I'm getting frustrated.

Check its temp after a prolonged Crysis 2 session. sudden PC shutdowns are mostly due to a faulty PSU/RAM.

And it might sound strange that only one game seems to trigger this, but it usually is an indication. I've a faulty PSU ones. Played Crysis 1 fine, but then I went playing Top Spin 2 and then it would shut down. Changed my PSU, no more issues.

Checked the PSU and it definetly has a problem, but not the one you'd expect: a plastic hair from a Halloween wig jammed the fans lol

I'll try to fix it later, gotta go now.

it most definetely is the power supply. i had a similar problem. my power supply had some minor issues first and after playing some crysis2 (and another heavy cpu application in the background) it just blew up. it wasnt ably to deliver enough power. later, when i opened it, i saw that its full of dust and dirt. i was sondering that it even survived that long.
