Lack of Prone is not a flaw

Post » Wed Jun 01, 2011 5:32 pm

Do you guys understand what game design is?

Crysis 2 was designed not to have prone. It is a fast-paced shooter where you're meant to be constantly moving around.

Prone is for either bad games that want to reward camping--- won't name any names-- or games that strive for ideal realism and can barely be shot unless you're prone.

Crysis 2 is neither of those things.

Stop being fools.

Firstly, the game was designed to let you play how you want. But instead they decided to turn it into a military bro-fest, ADHD, emptying constant clips **** and take options from the player.

Secondly, you're talking about multiplayer. In this game. Multiplayer... Why would anyone play multiplayer in this game, let alone give it precedence over singleplayer?

Thirdly, the game has cloak. Pretty sure cloak is a little bit more of a camping bonus than prone.

Bless you Harmatia!

Plus: nobody seems to understand that you can't just "add" prone. It takes a lot of motion capturing, animation tweaking, adding controls, tweaking the maps, according to the game modes and so on.. which is simply not going to be done AFTER the release of a game. Business is business, and this goes a little further than what DLC is...

Prone + Long distance is another way of aproaching any sceneario, if you don't like that's fine, but do not condemn the people that like it because of it

It's better without prone.

Prone would be good, but its pointless trying to snipe in these tiny maps. This is a total run and gun COD console game.

Run and gun? You must be kidding, right? Quake was run and gun, Unreal Tournament was run and gun, you're linking the style of a game to it being developed with another market in mind? You must have been asleep the past 12 years.

Sure, Crysis 1 had prone, but they had to patch around it so it wasn't abused in the multiplayer aspect. I'm glad they got rid of it. Prone isn't for every game, and it can ruin the pace of a game. If you want supersized maps with prone and sniping, go play the game Sniper: Ghost Warrior, don't bich about it here. TBH, I would have done the same thing as far as design decisions go. Removal of prone was a good idea.

Prone is fine in games IF they dev's make it balanced. The rookie mistake most of them make is not having a delay or anything when transitioning from prone upwards. If a player can dive and spring right back up in a split second (dolphin diving, etc) thats a rookie mistake. They need to have an animation of the person actually lifting himself up with his arms, unable to shoot, which would take about a second to do ingame.

Therefor prone would be used in situations where its needed mostly. Diving for cover, concealment, etc. Yes, it could still be used for camping/sniping...but QQ moar. Camping can be done crouching, or standing...hell even done by patrolling a single area. Stationary campers are easy to deal with if you actually have any sense of strategy.

I know its too late for Crysis 2, but the point is still valid.

Sliding to cover is a great way of escaping enemy fire, you change your stance, and as such, become a much harder target to hit.

Another thing I disliked about prone: if anyone was prone in a bunch of dead bodies.

Not having prone in C2 is fine. If going from sandbox to a typical DM game was good is the question.

It's a feature! :p

Doesn't matter. The maps are tiny and worthless in the end anyway.
