Crysis 2 Preliminary Scrim Rules

Post » Thu Jun 02, 2011 6:46 am

These rules have been made with simple settings so people who run scrim servers can easily set up a game without an rcon. Too many complex mode and score changes are impossible at the moment and it would make scrimming impossible.

Since the game has been designed as a Call of Duty game these scrim rules have been written with call of duty rules in mind.

SCRIM RULES:

Mode: Crash Site

Player limit: 5 v 5 and up. 5 v 5 or 6 v 6 recommended amount.

Games:

Best of 3 or best of 5, depending on time restraints.

*When an rcon is available best of 3 games with higher points will be the standard.

Winner will be the first to 150 points (as is default).

Banned Maps:

- Lighthouse (to unbalanced for a scrim).

Banned Weapons:

- JAW

Banned Perks:

- none as of yet

NO KILLSTREAKS ARE TO BE USED AT ALL

How to start a game:

Both teams must have their entire team partied up out of the server. Neither team can enter the server before the other. The team captains must speak with each other, both team leaders (the party leaders also) must find the server and enter the password. Then they will time it so both teams can the server at the same time. Since no team change option is available this must be done!

Why CRASH SITE:

Crash site is the only mode that has any tactics to it, and most resembles the CoD mode domination. Modes like TDM, CTF etc have never been picked up by competitive gaming as they do not focus on teamwork and they are not scrimmable. In my experience in almost 150 scrims in both CoD and Crysis Wars, crash site is the only scrimmable mode Crysis 2 offers (assault is a joke).

Eh, I don't see how you can justify taking away the usage of the JAW (or any weapon). It's a weapon, therefore if you have a person on your team that is able to use it, you should have the right to use it. That's what separates a good team from a great team. Everyone has the same chances at leveling (well, in the game's condition as it is right now, not really, but possibly later), so why take away rewards for achieving said levels? I've always found that concept pretty...stupid.

Also, why are you bothering trying to set up scrim rules when the game itself is barely functional as-is for REGULAR multiplayer, yet an organized SCRIM match...

Because there are several clans in the Australian community that want to scrim now, so we are doing the best we can.

+ Have you seen how much is banned in competitive CoD, the JAW is a skill-less weapon only being used by noobs going for 1/1 kdr atm. In the Aus community we prefer scrims to have a bit of skill involved.

Like the title says these are preliminary scrim rules, when proper modifications can be made then proper rules will be written.

Since the games start has been so bad it is unlikely they will be picked up by CG, so the community will have to do its best. If you don't like these rules make your own rules, I am just offering a base for people to start off of.

The JAW is an incredibly noob weapon and yes it is a weapon in the game but scrims are to test the skill of clans versing each other not to use a weapon that requires no aiming skill as you just shoot anywhere near them at the ground. The rules seem good to me.

I love this idea of taking away weapon choices, such as the JAW, simply because it doesn't fit in with your playing style - a incredibly elitest view. All weapons should be available to allow for the widest variety of tactics and counter-tactics. A genuinely good team will be the one with the best mix/balance of playstyles and loadouts.

The issue is not that JAW is noob or "no-skill" weapon, it is simply that you can't be bothered to think of a suitable countermeasure. Plus you only get one shot with the JAW and it has minimum range that it can be used (making it pretty much useless in enclosed spaces), which makes it balanced in my book.

Personally I prefer frag grenades as I think they're more versatile, but I wouldn't begrudge anyone the choice of the JAW.

Many people argue the SCAR is a noob weapon due to its strength at all ranges and ease of use, will you be banning that too?

I also think the support bonuses should be allowed as this will make for more varied and interesting matches.

This is a self-defeating argument. On one hand you argue the JAW is no-skill weapon, but on the other you say its for noobs going for 1:1 kdr. So if the weapons is so ineffective, why oppose its use in scrims?

I will presume you have never played anything competitively so I will make it clear, killstreaks are never allowed and rocket launchers are never allowed unless it is a vehicle based game mode. These are the scrim rules the very, very few clans in Aus may be playing by for now. Funnily enough I have never seen anyone bich in CoD because a rocket launcher was banned, or claymores, or noobtubes. Which I bet is your favourite CoD class.

These rules are very lenient and as I said very preliminary, when the competitive community grows there will be a lot, lot more that will be banned. I should join a game that you are in so I can get some inspiration on what is too cheap, over-powered or noob friendly for a scrim.

This was posted on clan forums, this was only posted here in case some other clans (not solo noob launcher players) could comment and leave feedback and express interest. As for the opinions of the cloaked , shotgun rocket launcher community I really don't care.

So, when will these leagues be starting up? And will there be a NA division? Which league will be carrying C2? Hows the anti-cheat program?

ESL has already adopted Capture the Relay for its opening cup. Heres the link with team size and rules :

http://www.esl.eu/eu/crysis2/forum/2554/23413/910496/

Not sure what rock you have been hiding under, but S&D is the competitive mode in Call of Duty. It's been that way since COD 1 came out up until now with Black Ops. What the hell is Domination? Never heard of it :)

As far as the game type is concerned it's going to be a tweaked version of "Pro" mainly because of upgrades, which is talked about in the ESL link above. Hopefully someone will make a pro mod, altho I'm not even sure mods are possible at this point. CEVO is prob our best hope of a solid North America league and its not looking good right now. There is a new forum on their site for Crysis 2 and I suggest everyone get over there and start posting on it if your interested in this type of thing.

There is also gamebattles :

We don't know about leagues yet, its early, and Crysis isn't COD. It will take some time for the big leagues to warm up to it.

Of course there will be a NA division.

Hope for CEVO.

Anti cheat program is non existent. Server Admins must ban hackers in real time.

Domination was run by CG in MW2 and is still being run. Of course SD is the main and best scrim mode, but Crysis 2's version of it is pretty fail (assault)

Cheers for the links

Just like the rocket launcher in CoD, or Bad Company. There is no tactic involved with this kind of weapon, at all. You don't even have to aim, and it does incredible amount of damage. There is no "elitist" here, the JAW is a freaking skilless weapon, period.

Currently the game is pretty dead in terms of either competitiveness and just pub play.

The JAW even though it has 1 rocket can still wipe out a whole group sitting in a crash site and it just makes it incredibly skill-less as in this game there is stealth so it is hard to spot some noob coming from above cloaked and then just blowing the crap out of your whole team.

These rules aren't even that strict so you really have no reason to whinge. Competitive ladders are bound to ban more than the JAW and kill streaks so i think you might want to think before you even consider whinging about these rules.

Hmm, why no JAW? Maybe its because their are no vehicles in the map?

I agree with Napalmed here. The Jaw is a balanced weapon, just like any other gun. It only has a couple shots (if that, I haven't really used it, but I can't imagine it having more than 2 or 3 shots before running out of un-refillable ammo until you die) ammo. The purpose would be, yes, to clear whole crash sites. But the point he and I are trying to make is that each team would have the same exact ability to have a JAW with each person, should you want your team set up like that. Which, hopefully you wouldn't because that would be terrible planning. Also, you would have to be more organized when capturing crash sites because, yes, you all COULD get blown away at any time. It just adds more realism to the game's competitiveness because you may have to organize yourselves with some of your team members staying back out of the crash site zone to watch over the one(s) capturing it... Just in case an enemy shoots off a JAW in an attempt to take over the Crash Site for a game-turning win. Or vice versa with that team and your team ambushing with the JAW. It's all strategy and planning for any type of weapon attack. Vehicles in the map or not should not matter. If it's there and unlocked, it should be usable. Just be prepared to handle anything. Professionals would not lose to spammers of it due to the extremely low ammo quiver and reload speed. And, like he said, a lot of people would still prefer smaller frag grenades.

All possible suit and skill abilities should also be allowed without exceptions, as Napalmed also stated. Games would definitely be more interesting and require a very good team to work together with what they have to beat the team they are up against. All ability combinations are pretty much personal preference and playstyle-based anyway, so I don't understand how taking away options for certain ones could even be plausible.
