Expression Error Unable to find cell id "Khartag Point" in script ShrineBoethiah.


This is the CTD i have. Checked the cell, it is named correctly, checked the script, also seems ok, as it does have the "Khartag Point" in it.

At a guess one of your mods has renamed the cell Khartag Point (-9, 4) and so the script fails.

So, if you have one of those it might be that mod.

If it's not one of those then you could try tes3cmd's http://code.google.com/p/mlox/wiki/Tes3cmd#multipatch_-_Patches_problems,_merges_leveled_lists,_etc. function. IIRC, using the command:
tes3cmd multipatch --cellnames --no-activate --no-cache >log.txt
Will create a file called "log.txt" in the same directory that tes3cmd is in, you can browse this to see what plugins modified cellnames. This could well pick up the offender.

"--no-activate" means that multipatch.esp won't be activated and "--no-cache" should make things run a bit quicker.

If that doesn't work (or you're not that au fait with command line tools) then I'm scratching around and would have to suggest a http://www.mwmythicmods.com/argent/tech/bin_srch.html.

When does the error appear - in the game's startup sequence (when exactly?), when creating a new character, when loading a specific savegame, or during the game?

If you can load load the game, try to teleport to Khartag Point (via console command) and see whether the cell name is accepted.

Are you using the Morrowind Code Patch? If not, then the game's memory corruption problems _might_ lead to something like that.

When starting a new game, it simply crashes and i get that error in my warnings.txt.

No, i am not using it.

I recommend installing it - even if it doesn't fix the current problem, it _will_ prevent savegame corruption problems that are otherwise inevitable with the amount of mods you're using. If you don't like it for some reason, you can also uninstall it with a single mouse-click.

If the code patch doesn't fix your problem, then I suggest the following:

Deactivate the mod with the offending script, try to start a new game. If the same (or a similar) error appears with another script, then something in your mod setup corrupts the game's memory, and I recommend a binary search (linked to by Dragon32 above) to find the culprit. If you can start the game, teleport to Karthag Point (or a cell nearby), and check how the cell is named. If it's not named "Khartag Point", then the new name can give you a hint which plugin changes it, you can then search the other plugins for that name (or you may be able to see from added items in the cell which plugin made changes there).

It's a vanilla script, afaik.

Seems the binary method is the only reasonable way... though i'll need to find some better software for plugin management then...

Did you try to install the MCP?

You could also add a mod that replaces the script with an empty one (if you can't remove it because it's a vanilla script). But I'm pretty sure that the script is not the problem, it's either memory corruption or a mod conflict (another mod renaming the cell).
