Crysis 2 multiplayer disconnecting my internet connection

Post » Thu Mar 31, 2011 4:25 am

This is an odd problem...

Whenever I'm looking through the multiplayer server list, after a short while, I lose my internet. The game is somehow disrupting my connection to the point of disconnecting me. After I've quit the game, a short while later, my internet connection returns without any action on my part. The lights of my modem still show me as being connected to the internet, so I don't think it's doing anything that deep... but it definitely affects my connection to the web, like... I can open a browser right after quitting the game and it'll take a minute or so for my internet to return.

I HAVE been able to jump into the odd game here and there if I'm prompt, but if I spend too much time checking the list of servers, it'll just kill my internet.

The ports on my router are open, but it still has me at Moderate NAT. This disconnection problem is something I've only noticed more recently (maybe since the 1.2 patch?)

Anyone else have this problem or any insight into why it happens?

Same problem here - I'm experiencing it since launch. The game also likes to freeze when this "connection overload" happens. Patch 1.2 seems to have affected it so that it does not happen always anymore, but most of the time now. Bug has same effect as the OP stated (connection dying; does not disconnect from game, but cannot join servers and freezes+shows network connectivity error on attempting refresh).

I'm behind a router. Main Crysis 2 port unlocked, NAT type: moderate.

It's possible to play it through Quick Match or start from the lobby if you enter the server fast (before one of the lasts of the servers load, that's usually when this bug happens).

My theory is that upload is being used at full capacity during this time (trying to load web usually stucks on 'sending request'). Task Manager's network diagram shows no connection usage during the bug though.

This seems to be a similiar (perhaps related) issue: http://www.gamesas.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=16563&p=196558

Yes. It's broken, since launch up to patch 1.2. You can look at this one too...

@Console when trying to refresh with the bug (broken connection) - this is after server list downloaded about 1100+ servers:

CGameBrowser::CancelSearching //clicking Cancel button in order to attempt refresh (1100+ servers on the list)
CCGameBrowser::StartSearchingForServers 0 //clicking Refresh button, game freezes for 10+ seconds
CGameBrowser search for sessions error 80
CCGameBrowser::MatchmakingSessionSearchCallback DONE
[Lobby] EndTask 12 (12) error 80 // "An error has occoured. Please check your network connectivity"

BUT this error happens because the connection is already dead/half-dead. Console showed nothing unusual during downloading the list, even when the connection was already dead (checked by trying to load a webpage).

During bug's time any attempt to join any server results in either "Server full" or "Connection to host failed".
Rarely Windows also pops up a message (after some time) stating that there is something wrong with the Internet connection, but it disappears quickly (and then connection slowly goes back to normal)

About a minute after bug started I'm able to load webpages again, connection works as it did before.
Filters do not seem to have any impact on this.

EDIT: @coldpointblue - I'm pretty sure that the game freeze (the one you experience; I also do) is a result of the dead connection.

I too get a disconnect from the internet. My router/modem shows me that everything is perfectly fine and my other computer doesn't stop working. However, my crysis 2 computer loses his internet for about 2 to 3 minutes before making a successful internet connection again. This is prompt when I am looking at the serverlist or simply drop out of multiplayer.

Also 99% of the servers show a ping of 1000. 99% of all servers give me a "connection to host lost" or "host not responding" sort of message. Even the few with a ping of 100-300 do so.

If I finally manage to join a server after trying about 50 servers (which does take its time) I usually get a acceptable ping of 50 or lower even if the server had a ping of 1000.

So Crytek, while fixing the issue of hard console port feeling on the PC you might want to add a few bugfixes in the netcode. Why does Crysis2 MP KILL internet connections?

Windows7 64bit, 5870 mobility, i7 720 etc etc. Singleplayer works fine but your MP kills everything.
Using Windows Firewall and nothing more. NAT type: moderate

EDIT: Ok no... it kills all the internet. Seems to kill the router without the router noticing. Other computer on a router connected to the main router which functions as modem as well don't have access to the internet while I try to connect to Crysis 2 Multiplayer.
I bet its gamespy, that service has been crap since it was released. Hated it back then hate it now.
