Final Thoughts After Completing Crysis 2 [SPOILERS]

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 5:35 pm

Thanks to Crytek for a great game with bugs which they are/aren't to be blame! I will sit on the fence for this case. You guys decide...

The ending wasn't as l3u11$}{!+ as what simalcrum said. At least I kind of like it as it makes you feel worthy, New York is saved, I'm the Hero & of course more to come... I guess we'll be having Crysis Mexico, Crysis Japan, Crysis Thailand, Crysis UK, Crysis Russia, Crysis Australia & so on with more jelly-like creatures with armour. haha...

Recommendations:
-For people who is still encountering Nano Catalysts Resetting, just use a trainer like dR.oLLe's v1.1 +9 trainer.
-Just restart the application if you can't [Melee] after Dying or Resume Game.
-Dealing with AI: 1.Hit & Run> you can because you have expansive area & cover.
2.TAC & Be Stealthy> It's a Piece of Cake! A Blueberry Cheese Cake to be exact...

Comments:
Not to degrade Crysis 2 but I've found a lot of similarities between F.E.A.R.2 & Crysis 2. The whole city under siege feeling is almost the same & the area explored are quite similar. Crysis 2 also has other games' elements in it so to speak.

With Nanosuit 2.0, we can Be (not so) Strong, Be (not really) Fast, Be (not actually) Invisible & Be The (not so deadly) Weapon whereas with telekinetic ability or whatsoever, we can Let Things Be Slow as in slow motion.
Variety of weapons, well, Standard FPS issues, ok, fine.

Graphics, Both are acceptable & quite well optimised. Most importantly, feels awesome in 3d vision. My GTX460 has no problem in handling them.

Audio, Both has 7.1 channel which has fully utilised my Logitech Z506 5.1(+2=7.1).

Controls, Crysis 2 is able to make full use of my Logitech G3 MX518 Gaming Mouse (8 buttons) but not F.E.A.R.2.

Gameplay, a lot to elaborate on...
1. For Crysis 2, I would prefer to press G to throw a grenade rather than G, then LMB
2. In F.E.A.R. 2, we have Slide Kick, Jump Kick & Forward Kick. In Crysis 2, we have Slideeeeeee
3. Where's the ability to dual wield a pistol & machine pistol like what we have in Crysis & Warhead? F.E.A.R.2 lost the ability as well.
4. What can't I prone?
5. Where's the destructible environment? (the per-bullet-per-impact kind of concept)
6. Can we shoot while grabbing an enemy with our left hand?
7. The Field of View for weapons (r_DrawNearFoV=55) is a little bit too near towards the body.
8. Where's the pistol slot?
9. I can't believe that I only turned on Cloak Tracker (you don't even need it as you could have probably tagged them before they were even cloaked) during the final fight.
10. To me, threat tracer, cloak tracker & air stomp are useless in SP campaign.
11. Difficulty: From Medium (CELL) to Easy (with Marines), then to Medium (CEPH) & finally Medium (MORE CEPH).

Issues (Bugs, Glitch...)
-Crysis 2
1. Nano catalyst Resetting
2. [Melee] won't work after Death or resuming campaign
3. Occasionally, some textures are flickering
4. Nanosuit menu isn't showing
5. AI is buggy as some of them kept trying to walk into the wall or kill themselves after I don't know how (I wasn't there to see it for myself but its body was there)
6. [Interact] stopped working for a while during Semper Fi or Die (the part before I get on the humvee)
7. Weapon icons especially L-Tag aren't showing properly.
8. In A Walk in the Park, I experienced a very stupid bug that kept me falling & falling but not dying after the 3rd Checkpoint.

My Preference,
Crysis 2:
1. A fully functional Console for me to mess with.
2. Additional options like the all the settings we have back in Crysis & Warhead.
3. Higher resolutions for environmental & object textures.
4. Nanosuit 2.0 is ok but still has Limited Energy input/output
5. 64-bit?
6. DX10 & 11?
7. I would prefer a secondary key bindings.
8. I really prefer the Female Voice for our Nanosuit in Crysis & Warhead.
9. How comfortable it was to have Maximum Armour as the default suit mode back in Crysis & Warhead. Most importantly, it doesn't even drain Energy over time.
10. More Cloaked Enemies won't be a headache if they weren't that strong since we have cloak tracker & tracker.
11. Sprinting speed was much faster in Maximum Speed than in Power Sprint.

My Praise,
1. 3D is great & only reduce about 5-6fps.
2. Same realistic lighting & shadow mapping.
3. Characters & Weapon Models rendered clearly.
4. Great Original Soundtrack by Inon Zur
5. Really svcks me in...(more than F.E.A.R. 2)
6. Relevant & Cool Weapons' Name
7. Customizations of Weapons is helpful.
8. Some Nanosuit's upgrades are wonderful such as the Proximity Alarms, Nano Recharge, Mobility Enhance & Stealth Enhance.
9. The TAC system is brilliant as it always gives me the upper hand. It never failed me, Impressive!!!
10. The cover-based implementation wasn't too bad but I didn't really exploit it.
11. Nanosuit 2.0 is much more flexible thanks to the (Cloak + Strength) ability.
12. At least you can fire a few rounds with silencer on without facing ENERGY CRITICAL in Stealth mode!!!

I think that'll be all. Crysis 2 really gives me the feeling of wanting to go back to Lingshan Island & experince the magnificence of CryEngine 2 again. This is exactly the feeling I got from Dragon Age II as to Dragon Age Origins. Crysis Warhead or Crysis would probably be my next stop!

Adios Crysis 2!

...All the best, Crytek...

Great write up! I agree with all you said, just wish it didn't have such a rocky launch. Seems like the game needed a few more months to iron out the kinks.

Thanks warc. This is something I have to share with the Crysis Community. I hope you all will feel the same. Also, Cry-Tom or Cry-Adam should at least take a few secondes to look at my maybe unworthy comments about their creation. Good day or good night. It's night for me...midnight...

Dual wield is stupid and idk why you keep bringing in Fear 2. Also, the nanosuit is the not so deadly weapon? OH YEAH, I may as well agree DISREGARDING the fact that you use the nanosuit 2 in the game to basically kill all of the aliens in New York in a matter of minutes when they just finish taking it over........

I like the story, for the gameplay side (Which is still not on par with Crysis 1) but the contingency.... where it at?
I'll start from the beginning.
Aliens are ancient, and are underground (First discovered as artefacts). CONTINUED.
The aliens are weakened around the nanosuit due to its wireless signals and disrupter-thing. MAXIMUM NOPE. Instead you are searching for a way to kill the aliens, even though your suit has been upgraded meaning really it should make the aliens be even weaker.
The aliens can fly around and freeze anything in their path as well as use their hulking bodies to smash through stuff. DISCONTINUED. They are now little pink things dressed in silver, how pretty, they are also easy as f*ck to kill even on post human warrior due to the fact that they... er... are crap I guess.
There is nanosuit technology developed by other parties. Again DISCONTINUED, making cloak tracker completely useless until the very last part where you can go into nanovision.
The aliens can make force-field things that act as an EMP as well as a giant ice field thang. CONTINUED-ish.
The aliens send out a distress signal to galaxy M33. This, along with Prophet returning to Lingshang Islands, is the biggest cliffhanger. Crysis 2 should be a fully fledge assault on humanity, not just NY (Yes at the end it says there is loads, but there is no evidence of attacks yet.) and even the attack on NY seems like a little scouting party even though the aliens were supposed to be testing Earth in the first one.

1-Gameplay not on par with Crysis 1? I say it surpasses. The amount of freedom yes, has been reduced, but Crysis 2 has kept me HOOKED and I enjoyed every bit from start to finish. Crysis 1 was FUN at start, then got reptetive and mediocre, then got a little okay, then got totally boring, and then finished alright. Crysis 2 was first, interesting, then awesome, then more awesome, then EPIC. And the multiplayer is actually fun too.

2-Aliens were weakened ONLY when Helena sent a signal through the nanosuit to hurt them. Guess what, THEY EVOLVED, the signal doesn't work anymore. Now you need a new weapon, COUNTERSPORES to kill them. Evolving aliens=immune to older attacks

3-Freezing crap and flying around in big bulky machines is very VERY resource effective for the aliens. They would not have survived long enough, maybe not even a few years, had they stayed the same. Thus they needed to adapt to an environment with few resources. How can I prove this? In Crysis 1, the aliens ONLY started to go ballistic once the nuke hit the sphere. THAT'S IT. They weren't ballistic from the start because they didn't have the energy. The nuke gave them a burst of energy (and it was all used in sending an armada of aliens). It was that energy and anger as well making them go insane.

4-New Ceph is simply adapted Ceph. In Crysis 1, we mainly fought Ceph in machines. In Crysis 2, we fight the Ceph in machines AND physical forms. Mainly physical forms this time, it's an invasion. Remember the aliens we fought INSIDE their environment as Nomad in Crysis 1? They were weak as crap. Them compared to the standard Ceph in Crysis 2 is like comparing a stick to a brick.

5-The aliens JUST started invading you idiot. You're forgetting in Crysis 2, it's about the span of a few days. The aliens started coming and took over New York in 3 DAYS. The only thing slowing them down was the nanosuit 2. And there IS evidence of other attacks, at the VERY END Prophet shows the aliens around the world BUT those aliens are actually STARTING to invade as well. THIS IS a full fledge assault on humanity, but New York is one of the first places to be invaded by the Ceph and Hargreave was there (which is why Prophet was there, which is why Alcatraz was there, which is also why Alcatraz gets the nanosuit 2 there and which is also why we PLAY in New York first in order to kill off the aliens).

did you kill final boss?

You mean the four Guardians? Yes. All four of them were fried to death by an almighty X-43 Mike with around 700 shots.
I also dealt with those 2 Grunts & 2 Grunt Commander that came after Guardians' death.
Then, that's it.

So SilentPhenomed, you're a total Crysis 2 hardcoe supporter. Good for Crytek & you, but bad for some.
I didn't say I dislike Crysis, it's just comments, friend. Don't you American support the Freedom of Speech all the time? Not for you, I guess.
No offence taken, I hope.

Some people take personal offense to someone disliking their viewpoint. Some are like me and dislike lies and things that aren't true. He's not telling him to refrain from speaking in any way and that's what matters most. So that's his way of respecting it. Albeit not the ideal or acceptable way but it's understandable. From what I understood he was correcting the person he replied to. He had some really weird perceptions about the story and he cleared them up. The person he replied to was ridiculing Crytek for the holes in the story when really the holes were just things he didn't understand. So Silent ridiculed him in return. Again, not the acceptable or ideal way but you understand just like I do.

I'm glad to see you put together such a great post! What you said about the campaign in Crysis 2 is SO true as well! When I was playing the original Crysis I stopped many times and took complete breaks from playing it. The campaign in the second Crysis kept me addicted the whole way through. I felt the same emotional attachment you did. It just kept getting more and more exciting and epic! The last boss was underpowered but the feeling of saving New York from being a desolate bone yard was definitely there. I got chills when he asked his name and he gave his response. "They call me..... Prophet."

Where are we going to next?!

One more thing...The final part where Alcatraz was struggling through inside the alien structure reminds me of MGS4:GoTP where Snake was struggling through the microwaves in order to deactivate JG (i don't know if i'm correct because that was three years ago).
What do you think?
