On the box it says that 3d functionality requires a 3d tv and glasses. I don't see why your PC wouldn't be able to do it though.

I think it's because ATI doesn't exist anymore and there is only AMD.

Also, buy Nvidia next time and maybe you won't have issues.

Obvious troll is Obvious

I'm not sure what the 3D support is for ATi in regards to Crysis 2, but If I'm not mistaken, I believe its a driver setting (meaning going into CCC and changing settings there), so if you haven't looked into that, I'd suggest it.

The AMD 3D is some new stuff, relax, and if its not available for Crysis 2 yet, give it a few months, and you should have it soon.

dont buy ati/amd, that you sould have learned from the past and now from the present.

remember GTA IV? no ati user could play it on release. you ask why? because the game developers develop on nvidia GPU's and port/bugfix for ati later. i cant remember all the "works fine for nvidia users and broken for ati users"-news, but they are more common than the opposite.

also, their linux drivers still svck and will ever do. call me a fanboy, but nvidia is the leader when it comes to graphics power. most innovation comes from them.

Ps: you want to play 3D on your laptop? w00t

I respectfully disagree. I've been using Nvidia cards since the 6XXX series came out. I jumped ship this year in favor of ATI. The main reason i jumped ship was because of the nightmare i had with getting their drivers to install and run properly.I bought my GTX285 one month after the release date and when i upgraded the drivers i wasn't able to get my card to keep a stable overclock anymore. On top of that the drivers would not install properly even on a fresh OS installation. So far i have yet to have similar issues with ATI's drivers. though i could be proven wrong at any moment.

It is true that Nvidia is the leader right now as far as research and development goes and they are well worth the money they charge. However, ATI/AMD really made a comeback with the RV700 chips. They were first to market for a DX11 card. It's hard to compare ATI to Nvidia right now. If you read the reviews Crossfired 6970's and SLI GTX 580's offer nearly identical performance. Though Nvidia is obviously going to be the leader on the games that they endorse, same deal with ATI. Architechturally speaking we are talking about 2 completely different approaches to the problem. Nvidia is more like a classic muscle car where as ATI is more like a european sports coupe. The nvidia car is big and powerful and can plow through all of its competition in straight line performance, but the same results can be achieved by using a more efficient engine.

You really can't lose with either one right now. Nvidia offers maybe 5-10 more FPS than ATI does on some titles. Nvidia's retainment of the performance crown and marketshares for the past 6 years has definitely helped them with their relations to game developers so naturally i would expect them to have some sort of advantage be it performance or otherwise over ATI. That said since RV600 ATI has done a good job gaining ground back in their target-markets and i wouldn't be surprised if they leveraged that in order to get more developers interested in their products. I've never really been a fan boy for any hardware company.

I would like to see how a 2GB 580 would hold up against a 6970.

Try adding this line to your system.cfg:

r_StereoSupportAMD=1

This will open up the 3D options at least. If your gear supports SBS or interlaced you should be in buisness.

ATI rules.

Well 3D-vision is only available for Nvidia. As far as I know there is no official 3D-support for ATI. However there are some 3th party solution for 3D that work on ATI and Nvidia.

For the official Nvidia solution you need (official) a 100Hz monitor (however, 85 work to). For the third part solution (iZ3D/RealD-ZScreen) you also need a specific monitor however I just see iZ3D don't sell monitors anymore.

Both require 3D glasses however the Nvidia-solution (active) needs very expensive glasses while the passive solution needs glasses that cost a few cents.

So since there is no official ATI support for 3D this option is grayed out. When using a third party solution it will still be grayed out because the extra software will do the work for you.

All ATI cards 5xxx and up support what they called HD3D. I believe it's meant primarily HDMI 1.4a to 3DTVs though. There are a bunch of variables available to adjust 3D settings in the engine. This is how I got my iZ3D monitor/Radeon 5870 working with the game.

ariable: r_StereoDevice DUMPTODISK, REQUIRE_APP_RESTART
type: int
current: 100
help: Sets stereo device (only possible before app start)
Usage: r_StereoDevice [0/1/2/3/4]
0: No stereo support (default)
1: Frame compatible formats (side-by-side, interlaced, anaglyph)
2: HDMI 1.4 (PS3 only)
3: Stereo driver (PC only, NVidia or AMD)
4: Dualhead (PC only, two projectors or iZ3D screen)
100: Auto-detect device for platform

variable: r_StereoMode DUMPTODISK
type: int
current: 0
help: Sets stereo rendering mode.
Usage: r_StereoMode [0=off/1/2]
1: Dual rendering
2: Post Stereo

variable: r_StereoOutput DUMPTODISK
type: int
current: 4
help: Sets stereo output. Output depends on the stereo monitor
Usage: r_StereoOutput [0=off/1/2/3/4/5/6]
0: Standard
1: IZ3D
2: Checkerboard (not supported on X360)
3: Above and Below (not supported)
4: Side by Side
5: Line by Line (Interlaced)
6: Anaglyph

variable: r_StereoScreenDist DUMPTODISK
type: float
current: 0.25
help: Distance to plane where stereo parallax converges to zero.

variable: r_StereoStrength DUMPTODISK
type: float
current: 0.5
help: Multiplier which influences the strength of the stereo effect.

variable: r_StereoSupportAMD REQUIRE_APP_RESTART
type: int
current: 0
help: Disables/Enables [0/1] stereo support on AMD hardware

As you can see there is a lot more 3D functionality there than what is being made available through the menus alone.

Hey the specs for my monitor are :

■A smooth, edge-to-edge 17.3" (diagonal) 120Htz 1080p Full HD 3D screen with super-sharp 1920 x 1080 resolution

In system prpoerties it is listed as a plug and play monitor. Would this have anything to do with it? maybe the game needs to know my monitor capible of 3d?????
