Hyperthreading: [ON] or [OFF]?

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 8:33 pm

I was wondering if anyone has a definitive answer for this. Should I turn hyperthreading on my P4 3.2 Ghz on or off?

It'd be super if one of the Crytek guys could get back to me with a definitive answer.

Thanks!

I would say on, to help give the boost when needed.

Erm, ON of course. Why would you even want to turn it off these days when pretty much everything is made to use more than 1 core? It was back in the old days when Pentium 4 was released when HT actually made things slower because they were all written as single threaded apps and games and the OS wasn't exactly supporting HT too well either.
So if you have HT (and you do), keep it enabled. The gains can be even up to 30% in ideal conditions, otherwise it's around 10-20% boost in multithreaded apps.

You can read more about it here:
