It is possible that if the game reaches critical mass it may see some more attention a la Bad Company 2 but even that game, despite how mediocre it was, had punkbuster and in general far fewer technical crises. It is highly unlikely Crysis 2 will see more more maps or patches--its likelier to expect some half baked Xbox DLC to migrate to the PC at some point in the summer. After all what incentive do Crytek have to do anything? The game is shipped and consumers are buying a half finished product--there is no long term commitment to server maintenance or support or even patching because in their mind they sell a product while players increasingly expect a service: regular patches and exploit fixes. If you have issues, they go to outsourced illiterates working for EA support--the Crytek studio is probably on holiday or preparing for new projects but certainly not active in a serious way. Expecting a Crysis 2 renaissance is like expecting MW2 to adopt servers and refund players two years after the fact.
As you said, if you set out to make a progression based shooter but making changes in the change equipment screen don't do anything requiring you to leave the lobby after every round to save your stats, its clear the game was rushed and Crytek has compromised its standards and work ethic. Save yourself a headache and uninstall it.
As far as the preorder issue, in the future you just have to be smarter. Don't be fooled by preorder "bonuses," as the entire model for preorder seems like it originates in response to reselling of console games and publishers trying to recover perceived losses. If a guy buys Crysis 2 new for Xbox, he'll input the code, play for a week and return it to gamestop who will sell it used for something under retail price. The used preorder code allows EA to charge 5 or 10 dollars to gain access to that "missing" content. Bottom line is these "bonuses" are just mundane features in the game and the whole thing is a ruse to trick console gamers--I can't think of any instance were buying in early gave you some gamebreaking or meaningful advantage.
There are two other notable FPS games coming out this year--Brink and MW3. MW3 will almost certainly launch like Crysis 2, maybe Brink will as well, but ultimately make sure you do your research and avoid making the same mistake you and I made here.
