No crossfire performance difference

Post » Wed Dec 15, 2010 3:27 am

Hi there.
So, i got my hands on crysis 2, cool.
I waited on installing it because i was going to add a second 5770 to my setup, which i did yesterday, so far so good.
I installed the catalyst 11.4 drivers and the 11.3 profiles, so far so good.

I installed crysis and fired it up, it updated to 1.2 i think.
First i tried the hardcoe config, seemed to run a bit slow, so i tried the advanced setting, but not seeing any big difference, i scratched my head, this was supposed to run better.

So i fired up fraps, disabled crossfire and started crysis on advanced setting, getting about 60 fps inside and 30 outside.
I rebooted the game after enabling crossfire, same setting and getting the same fps, 60 inside and 30 outside, there was no performance difference of notice.

So apparently something is not working as it should with crysis 2, anyone experienced this or got any ideas how to solve this?

I have crossfire 5770s running on 'very high' settings through the Crysis 2 Advanced Graphics Options and seem to be getting those frame rates but I have never tried turning crossfire off.

Are you absolutely sure you are running crossfire on or off? And also seeing and confirming the gpu usage when the game is running?

Maybe I will try turning crossfire off and seeing what happens.

Deleted account and created a new one with proper user name.

I open ccc, go into ydeevne/performance, amd crossfireX konfiguration/configuration, remove the tick from the check box and apply, screen goes black for a few secs, now crossfire is disabled, verify by going into amd overdrive and now only one card is available.

Then i start crysis and watched the fps counter from fraps while running around in the very first building and outside.
Closed crysis, reversed what i just said, now crossfire is enabled, verify by going into amd overdrive and now both cards are available.

Then i start crysis again, same building, same settings, doing the same things, looking at the same objects, no noticeable difference in fps.

Wtf........

To be honest, i don't think this has anything to do with ati or their drivers, ati already released an update for their crossfire profiles including crysis 2.

Er.... Probably something to do with:

Notice the ""? Guessing that you didn't use the Advanced Settings UI thing and that your FPS is still locked to a maximum of 60.

P.S.
Why is there a DX10 profile in the Engine.pak when DX10 isn't suported...? *tuts* Rushed games fail.

EDIT:

So basically, you can't get better performance because you're getting the best.
Try this on Crysis, Crysis looks better than Crysis 2 and is more demanding, you might -should- see a difference there.

I was about to post and say that there must be something wrong with your system but I booted it up to check and indeed, the 5770 Crossfire results are rather terrible. While there were some improvements, it dropped to 30 with one card and did exactly the same with two! RadeonPro shows that both cards are being utilised in Crossfire.

I tested Crossfire when the game first launched and the difference was great, as expected, with the game running at 60fps on Extreme 1920x1080 most of the time except in some of the larger open areas where it dropped to low 40s. Must this have been the patch? I haven't updated my drivers since the game came out. Disappointing.

I've not finished or even played the game in a fair while now because I've been waiting for the rancid Crossfire flickering to be fixed first.

Edit: Triple buffering enabled with v-sync (disabling changes nothing)

I had just tried it turning crossfire off, confirmed it was using and running one GPU at 99% and was getting around 40-45 fps on that opening SP level. Turned on crossfire, reloaded, confirmed it was running both GPUs at 99% and received NO gain in fps, fps remained the same.

If there was an increase in fps with crossfire, it is very negligible and unnoticeable. Disappointing.

Edit: was running under 'Very High' settings. With OCed settings at 950/1350.

I see what you mean RankWinner, but, if i had a stable 60 all the time it would be fine, but it goes from 60fps inside the first building to 30fps when i step outside, no matter if i have crossfire enabled or disabled.

Meanwhile i am also playing bulletstorm, with crossfire on i have stable 60fps with all the bells and whistles on, i do not if i disable crossfire, then i only get about 30/40 fps.

Another thing, reading the requirements for crysis 2

Crysis 2 Optimum System Requirements

CPU: Intel Core i5 3.1Ghz, AMD Phenom II X6 1055T or better
GPU: NVidia GTX 560 Ti, ATI 6850 or Dual graphics cards
RAM: 4GB
DX: 11
Shader: 4.0
OS: Windows 7
Frame Rate Target: 30fps@1920x1200

I have

CPU: i7-920@2.8ghz turboboost to 3ghz
GPU: crossfire 5770 1gb
RAM: 8GB
DX: 11
Shader: 4.0
OS: Windows 7 x64
Resolution: 1920x1080

So my computer is higher than the requirements.

Ah, i'm not the only one.
We should be able to agree that i does not make sense that a second card utilised 99% does not give any fps improvement over what one card is able to push.

I'd say something is wrong with crysis, i can't see where else the problem would be.

Ahh... no idea then, look for enabling crossfire support in crysis 2, I think it's disabled as default and you have to change the config to enable it. Not sure though.

If that was the case, that would be very odd.
There is no added options in game for crossfire, but i'll try searching the forums for a config solution.

Ya that or they just really really fudged the dual GPU support.

Can somebody check their crossfire with different cards (not 5770s) and see if they get any fps increase as oppose to crossfire off. Im curious to know if this is a general problem or not.

I am using the Crysis 2 Advanced Graphics Options which I believe forces that config through their 'Multi GPU' option. But I am not sure though.

Just downloaded it, set the "all settings" to very high, enabled multi gpu, applied, will see if that does anything.

Edit: Didn't notice any difference.

I have this problem - crossfire 6950's working with every other damn game apart from this. Something somewhere is very fishy indeed with crytek and their 2 million golden handshake from nvidea... my rig smashes 130fp at most games but im getting the exact same 30/60 in/out as mentioned above whether crossfire is on or off

Not every game is SLI/Crossfire compatible. I mean i know someone who has two 5870's, liquid cooled, top of the range in every detail, only gets an average 40fps on Arma 2, whereas others get higher frames on the same settings with less hardware.

Put simply, it doesn't always work logically.

Same problem here. It makes no difference if i run 2,3, or 4 of my Cf'ed 5850's. It will heat them up nicely, but not accelerate those ....
( Crytek executive producer Nathan Camarillo said that the graphics for Crysis 2 will be 'the best you've ever seen')

I mentioned this problem a while ago, Crysis 2 does not support crossfire, you get same framerate with one single GPU, that svcks .

We need a patch

Well, nonetheless it is a big problem, it would not make any sense not to support crossfire for a game that is supposed to have the best graphics.

Indeed.

I won't be playing the game before this is fixed.
I've only played the first 2 min of the game, so haven't ruined anything yet.
