Impressed with Xbox360 controller support.

Post » Thu Dec 30, 2010 4:03 pm

I bought a wireless xbox360 controller for my PC... I don't play FPS's on it, but I got it for games like GTA IV and flight sim type games.

I decided to try it with Crysis 2. At the beginning I hit the start button, and the controller was already configured. Controller buttons also show up as context in the menus, and during the game.

So I decided to try it with Crysis 1, w/ 1.2 patch installed. As soon as I hit a button on the controller, it automatically worked, even had some kind of prompt in the game menu, that the controller scheme was switched. I didn't have to configure anything, and rumble even works. It controls okay, but switching suit modes is too slow, KB and mouse still the best for it. I was actually surprised at the level of gamepad support built into Crysis 1, even the configuration in-game has a picture of a 360 controller.

Maybe CryTek had consoles in mind all along?

If you saw the vid of the devs playing the demo on launch day they are all using controllers with the PC. Right there i thought 'I may have made a mistake preordering this, nah probably nothing' Nice to know im right at least some of the time :) Ah well, roll on BF3.

I do have to admit, the gamepad experience with Crysis 2 feels very streamlined, and the rumble really adds to the gameplay. Still, I would NEVER use it in multiplayer, aiming and movement still not as precise as my Razer Deathadder.

I remember playing Crysis with a 360 controller when my gaming mouse died and it was absolute rubbish. There are some gameplay mechanics that you simply can't even execute with the controller, like prone, so no matter what you're pretty much stuck playing either controller/keyboard or mouse/keyboard. I ended up busting out a laptop mouse and using that until I got a new G700, and even that was a better experience than controller Crysis.

/sigh... those were the good old days...

Supposedly this is done because it's easy to stand up under a large screen with a controller, which is more conducive to a video/interview than talking to someone sitting down at a keyboard.

Ah, i get ya, but there was no 'piece to camera', just a lot of cuts of guys in a room at pc's holding pads going 'ooh' and 'aah' etc. This game could have been bloody exellent. Instead we have maps the size of postage stamps, a spawn system which is truly truly bad, shoddy netcode, fecking terrible weapon ballance, cut n paste scrypt kiddie epedemic, and a company that has serious comms issues. Ah hell, ill check back in another week for any update, but i aint holding my breath. So sad.

Fixed for you. We also supported Gamepads in Crysis 1 and Crysis Wars.

Retard, it's not a console port. CryEngine 3 proves this. Crysis 2 was built ground up on all platforms, simulteneously. Do your research loser. Same goes for console noobs thinking this is a bad PC port LOL.

And also, BC2 was a console port....and umm....on PC....it was pretty **** awesome....and it's actually a CONSOLE PORT so uhh...yeah....STFU

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On TOPIC: Yes, Crytek actually DID have console in mind from the start. Crysis 1 was meant to be multiplatform from the start, but when Crytek tried putting it on PS3, the memory on the console was SOOOOO freakin' low and outdated. They could not do it, so they just kept it as a PC exclusive.

I was referring to how you guys originally wanted to port Crysis 1 to consoles.

Keyboard/mouse is the way to go for Crysis 1. Gamepad works okay with it, and there's rumble which is nice. But you just can't aim with the same level of precision, like you can with a mouse.

Crysis 2, definitely more fast-paced and streamlined, the controls for the gamepad are very nice. Still though, I prefer keyboard/mouse.

Gah! Where the hell did he go? Adam? Adam! Come back!
Noo! I must have made a sudden move and scared him off!!
Any idea when the next patch is good to go? No, i dont want a date and time, but 'week' '2 weeks' 'a month or so' would all be good. Prove me wrong about the bad comms!
Also, i have an almost unlimited supply of Gummi Bears, something worth thinking about, know what i mean? (wink wink) (flashes Gummi Bear) Ooh yea! :)

Still nothing. Ah well, im sure EA have had to deal with a bucketload of complaints. Only good thing is that Crytec will rightfully gurgle down the tubes. No way another publisher will front up the cash for dross like this. I just hope to god that anybody who worked on this wont have a chance to contaminate any future projects in decent dev teams.

I played with a guy who was using a controller, he came top every game I don't get how a controller can beat keyboard and mosue players....

If it's so fair to play controllers vs KB/mouse then where are our cross platform multiplayer matches so we can have some real PC vs PS3 vs XBOX gameplay. Haha.
