ATI 6870 issue - after catalysy update

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 9:30 am

for some reason when i play SP the screen will "black out" whenever there is an explosion near me or something happens - for example the alien spear thing on Wall St. - in dead man walking singleplayer...

This is during my 2nd playthrough on PHW. When i played it on Normal (the day the game came out) i had no graphical issues running game on Extreme on my 6870... Now it seems there are graphical problems everywhere...

turning down graphics had no effect - and its even more annoying because im playing this on hardest difficulty and its vital that i see whats going on...

anyone any idea how to fix?

Using newest drivers doesn't mean that everything will be better, in most cases best choice is to use a bit older version which are more stable. Yeah yeah they say to use newest, well it's a BS ;) Right now i am running my HD5870 Vapor-X on 10.11 version which is best from all tested drivers from AMD, when i use higher ver. there is many bad things going on while playing (even game crashes).

So i voting for Catalyst 10.11, if those wont help then test just all drivers from this year and see which are most stable for you card.

Yea that's pretty sad how AMD keeps releasing driver after driver and they are just as unstable and defective as the older version, and that many of their customers have to actually resort to using older drivers than the supposedly newer better drivers, that is a sign of a bad company.

why did you buy a piece of crap card like that? Get an HD 5800 series card and you will be much happier. Higher number does not equal more power.

i am aware of that fact you know?

actually the 6870 only loses around 2-5 fps to the 5870 so there is no point in getting that and also the 5870 was more expensive...

TBH i wouldnt call this card a piece of **** but w/e

What exactly do you mean by "black out?" Does the game crash, or do you just lose visual? Does it lock up your computer, or can you quit via task manager?

I'm having an issue with Crysis 2 where my monitor loses signal randomly while playing - doesn't sound like the same problem you're experiencing, but I'm sure mine is a driver incompatibility issue and I'm also running an AMD setup (6850 CF). Anyway, more info on your problem might be helpful.
