Because they aren't finished with fully developing the tool set. It's my understanding that Crysis 2 owners will get the Sandbox 3 while the more serious modders/developers can get Cryengine 3 SDK depending on what license the individuals want to go for.

No sandbox 3 won't be coming for the average modder/gamer, it states that on the cryengine site above.

A Game Development license is available to established games studios. We do not issue engine licenses to individuals, nor do we provide the engine for non-commerical purposes, such as Mod Teams, via this site. For information about obtaining the Mod SDK please visit our website at http://www.crymod.com.

CE2 has the same licensing thing. However, you get a SDK to mod Crysis. So why not for Crysis 2 also?

Also, Crytek is planning to release indie SDK in the summer, whihc will be something like the UDK. Who knows - it could be compatiable to mod Crysis 2.

Because Crytek have plans to copy-paste Activision's and Call of Duty **** behavior- Crytek wants to make more $$$$ by selling you 5 maps for over 9.000 $. And if you will have Sandbox, and mod support you would be able to simply make more maps for free, or port their DLC maps to be free.

Anyway im not going to buy DLC, and you guys, even on consoles, dont buy DLC for Crysis 2 - boycott it, let Crytek see that we dont like that **** and needs free maps or freedom to make our own maps and mods!
And spread the word about boycotting DLC on various Crysis forums!

Ya, pretty much. Sandbox 3 will be just the basic mod tool like what is Sandbox 2.
Cryengine 3 SDK will be the actual game engine itself where you could put your own code and what nots.

For sure, i won't give any euro more for'em.

Look at what MR Yerli & Sousa are saying to Eurogamers:
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-the-making-of-crysis-2

They just don't give a sh** about community and don't want modders anymore, they want the same "game" for all platform.

All their focuses was for consoles.

DISAPPOINTED, BYE BYE CRYTEK
it was a good trip from Farcry to Warhead, good experience, innovations, open-world...

Look at you now, you're just as "intelligent" as IWD and so many others.

Take a lesson about what is TRUE PC marketing rules:
“It was because of fan feedback that we decided to spend the last eight months improving the game, trying to bring it as close as we can to the perfect RPG experience,” said Adam Kicinski, CEO of CD Projekt RED.

“It’s hard to beat the feeling we get when we see fans on message boards say that they will buy another copy of the game just to support our efforts.

But hell, we’re just as happy about every person who downloads the free patch to update their original game; we’re honoured to have each of you playing our game when there are so many great titles on the market.

We’re going to do everything we can to make sure that each of our games is better than the last, without sticking to convention and doing the same thing as everyone else.”

You wont get a Sandbox for Crysis 2.
You will get a Sandbox for Cryengine 3. Its part of their new move. Read what Cevat said.
Cevat wrote:Yes, but – to be frank – not as a mod. So far that’s what we’ve been offering for free, and it’s easy entry into the production environment. [But] we do want to make a standalone free platform that people can run independent of CryEngine that will also be up to speed with the latest engine.

So basicly, what i gather from this is that (but is most likely inaccurate)

1: they still want to make money with DLC
2: you will not be allowed to mod / map for C2
3: you will have to build entire new games to use the sandbox editor

I doubt anyone will need to "boycott" the DLC.
Its common sense really, to not spend money on things that were always free.

I for one, will never buy DLC for this game. Simply out of principle. C1 supported community maps / mods. This is what i had in the past. Why would i want to pay for that now?

So... that.

Or somebody could try to move all the Crysis 2 .pak files into Crysis and see what happens. Probably epic error of failage though.

Yes I know that but I'm sure they are licensing out the sandbox with the source files for this engine.

I did stumble on this just now though:

http://www.develop-online.net/news/34466/Free-to-use-CryEngine-plans-emerge

My guess is if they do bring out a sandbox and Mod SDK for free, it will be a dumbed down version of sandbox 3 and a Mod SDK which is heavily missing a bunch of classes. I would expect a full sandbox editor in the likes of crysis 1.
