Worth the upgrade?

Hey guys, Im looking into upgrading my videocard (Radeon HD 5770 1GB) to maybe a Radeon 6870 or some type of Nvidia 5 series. I really do not have a preference, they are just in the same price ranges. I run the game on high with probably around 45-60 fps, but when I go very high I get a mere 20-30. I think the ambient shadows may be the difference between the two, but until Crytek gives us advanced options, I have no freaking clue. I have the intel i5 -750 (quad core) CPU and around 4GB of ram. My rig is almost a year old and i have upgraded from a 9800GTX to my 5770. Just wondering if this card will make all of my difference, or if I'm better off saving my money.

Is your CPU and RAM overclocked?

Less than a year old? You're better off upgrading every two to three years.

This game is not so much of a gpu hog as its elder brother was (can't say about the dx11 performance). I would suggest to hold up your 5770 for some more time and maybe by the end of this year go for a change of graphic card. New series of both teams would be out by then (most probably) so you would have better options then. Anyways your cash your choice.

5770 is pretty good. Hold on to it for now.

As for now, if you haven't overclocked your stuff yet. And your temperatures are fairly low (~60C on CPU, and about 69C GPU on full load. Lower than 80 anyway.), Then you could consider overclocking both.

That would at least squeeze a bit more juice out of them, while you're waiting for an actual need of upgrading.

Don't forget to have a underclocked GPU, as long as you're not using it - by the way. :)

Maybe if you really want a slightly better performance upgrade but I think you should wait until BF3 is out to see if you PC can handle it to your liking. That game is going to easily have 3 years of life so if you want to upgrade you should wait to see how much is needed in the video cards to make it shine. If your not a battlefield fan then I think your good.
