What is this module?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 4:14 am

So i was looking this guy(enemy side) with the scope of the DSG and he was somehow jamming my vision. What is this module? I thought it was jammer, but that is for the radar, not vision from scopes.

Also there was a one time beep when looking at him once a time

no... this means someone was shooting at you - while they were cloaked... Basically they're bullets get cancelled out and the target gets distorted vision kind of like a warning that someone is aiming at them...

I'd been wondering this too. The closest I got to explaining it was ceph ships flying overhead which (esp. in crash site) sort of linked to when my vision messed up.

What codename is referring to is the fact that the first shot you take in cloak gets 'cancelled' (if you didnt know this use the sniper class, cloak, aim at someones head and fire -> you wont get a kill) and he is saying that it is this first shot, instead of being cancelled, causes the scope to go funny.

Although it seems plausible i'm not 100% sold on this as I've had the distorted scope a few times when i have neither noticed any incoming fire or health damage and have stayed alive a good time after the distortion (say 2-3 mins) which doesnt tie with someone shooting at you as you would either notice the bullets, get injured form the bullets not fired in cloak or would be dead.

I'm not saying codename is wrong just that from my experiences of it, it doesnt seem to fit this explanation all the time. :S

What is the reason the 1st shot gets cancelled in cloak mode? A bug or design choice. This was driving me mad when using a shotgun and sometimes I would click armour mode but fire off a shot point blank too quick before I fully decloaked, then I would do a beat down and still not get a kill.

I would assume they designed it that way to not make shotguns too powerful but I think reduced damage would be better. How can my bullets just disappear into thin air -.-

I assume its to give people a chance to kill snipers and tip the balance away from attackers using cloak. For example when im sniping I usually have to decloak to kill before i have to decloak to save energy, add to the fact i have Energy transfer III and if you could fire cloaked I would NEVER have to decloak, which puts the assault guys who arent looking out for snipers at a huge disadvantage...

Edit: Sorry didnt quite answer your post but I assume its for the same or similar reasons to the cloak cancel. I dont think its a bug (I've not heard anything about it being so) so I guess the Devs figured you were still at too much an advantage even though you already had to de-cloak???

No you were right. Basically because I didn't wait to fully transition out of stealth mode the shot still counted as me being cloaked. That's fine (I should be more controlled and not spaz out so fast xD) I just wondered why you lose your first shot when you fire in stealth mode, which you answered.
