The reason why Crysis 2 isn't a PC-Exclusive

We are suffering currently from the huge piracy that is encompassing Crysis. We seem to lead the charts in piracy by a large margin, a chart leading that is not desirable. I believe that’s the core problem of PC Gaming, piracy. To the degree PC Gamers that pirate games inherently destroy the platform. Similar games on consoles sell factors of 4-5 more. It was a big lesson for us and I believe we wont have PC exclusives as we did with Crysis in future. We are going to support PC, but not exclusive anymore.
This was an indication, back in 2008.
Yeah, the Piracy .. ok, of course thats the reason [/ironic]

laff.

They knew they were going to release a severely consolized game, so they blame it on piracy. The leak comes out, people complain about how bad it looks/plays, crytek comes out and says "piracy continues to destroy pc gaming".

It seems like they k now the game was going to svck on PC since day 1, so they try to force it into our minds that its our fault, so we dont rage at crytek for crysis 2.

hahahaha

Crysis 1 sold 3 million copies.

http://www.computerandvideogames.com/195527/news/crysis-cost-22-million-to-make/

Cevat Yerli, president of Crytek, has told the Games Convention Developers Conference in Leipzig that Crysis cost 15 million Euros (22 million USD) to make.

Even though that amount of money could power a third world country for a few years, the EA published game must have managed to turn round a tidy profit. And in the face of massive piracy on PC, that's no mean feat.

"If it wasn't profitable I wouldn't be able to stand here," he told attendees, reports IGN.

damn, 3m copies sold, at a super conservative average price of $10/copy... 8m profit... nice.

that damn piracy.

I always found it funny that Crytek said that console games sell 4-5x more since Crysis 1 has outsold almost every PS3 exclusive and several AAA multi-platform games. Sure it didn't sell as well as the Halo series or Uncharted 2, but those games were heavily backed by Microsoft and Sony respectively. No third party developer can compete with the tour de force marketing power of the large first party studios.

First off, this is very old.

Second, it just shows how stupid cevat is.

This is the same douche who said they only broke even with crysis. If you need to sell 3 million copies to break even, YOU ARE DOING IT WRONG...

Well even though they sold almost 5 million copies of Crysis 1 + Warhead, you can't deny that piracy is still a huge problem. I would even say that 5+ million copies were pirated. (Lol just look at Black Ops, 5 million copies pirated in the first week alone). Even if 1 out every 5 of those assh*les that pirated Crysis 1 and Warhead bought the game (cmon they cant shell out $30 for the one game that isn't a console port since 2007?), they would have made between 8-20 million extra dollars.

You can't blame them for b*tch*ng. They probably expected their game, arguably one of the most PC focused games of all time, to sell as much as Half-Life 2 or CSS. They are a business and work for the money. They don't work to see the happy faces of 10 million PC gamers world-wide.

I don't mind if people pirate blatant console ports like Dead Space 2 or Black Ops or NFS. But if they go as far to pirate a really nice PC exclusive (which is soooo rare to begin with), that's just sad.

And then pirates make the excuse: No one could run the game...that's why we pirated it. Oh yeah? F*ck you. The 8800GT and 9800GT are the most popular cideo cards on Steam, and they are more than enough to run the game at a mixture of High and Very High at 1440 x 900...when th game still looks beautiful at those settings.

IMO there is nothing wrong with a game being multi-platform - in the long run devs get more $$$ therefore more updates for the game - in a perfect world...

the only bas thing about multi-platforming is when the dev is biased for one console and they base their game upon it at the cost of other games - now that is wrong and should not happen

I agree, especially since a lot of people here keep saying, "Oh man, Crysis 2 was a let down... Guess I'll wait for BF3!" That game is multi-platform too.

I have the feeling BF3 will be a huge disappointment, 64 player, great graphics, PC focused, jets, tanks, destruction, realism... It all just seems to good to be true.

True. Crysis 2 PC version is a lot better vs X-Box 360 version=such poor textures on the console

tomtomwolfwolf and you need to watch movie's comparison on gametrailers.com

X-Boxers and PS3 players don't get mad cause your consoles suk at graphics as it's true and you don't wanna accept it doest mean that your consoles are better in your unmature mind
