Apply ICMP Limit in Server Browser (Suggestion)

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 3:22 am

Hey,

Right now I suspect Crysis 2 to send too many ping requests for my router to cope with. It drops the connection completely if too many servers are listed in the Crysis 2 browser. Now I agree that the router is bad and should be replaced, however it is the router provided for a larger ISP in Austria so it's probably deployed in quite a lot of households.

I suppose it would make sense to only ping a handful of servers and then send more requests if the queued finished. Maybe something else is at fault there, but the most likely explanation I could come up with is that the NAT table overflows.

Maybe that could be investigated for the next patch.

I think you just need to upgrade your equipment. Your ISP and router should not be having a problem like that. Or go into your routers options and configure them, maybe its not set up right?

Overflowing NAT tables are not exactly an uncommon problem.

The router is set up perfectly well. The size of the NAT table is not something under the user's control. Software update is not available for this particular device either.

Hmm sorry then I can't help ya much. I am actually going for a cert in Net+ (networking and security) but this is my first semester of the course, so I don't know enough about it yet. I love the class though am very much looking forward to learning it. I am coupling Net+, A+ and Microsoft certified. I am pretty much in a head spin with 3 to 4 letter abbreviations, ugh get em out of my head!!! ISP, DNS, NAT, ICMP, LAN, WAN, MAN, HTTP, TCP/IP, ugh make it stop make it stop!

ICMP is what ping uses (and I suspect what the server browser is using) and NAT is what a router is typically using to make its magic work.

I just made this thread here hoping that someone at Crytek would pick it up. Reproducing that issue behind a company network might be hard as more expensive networking devices usually don't show this erroneous behavior.
