PC Multiplayer, any good?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 4:50 am

Hello guys. I'm planning to buy Crysis 2 but it all depends on the multiplayer mode. Since It's not possible to try it out (afaik) I'm posting here for some insight from you guys who already owns the game.

I played counterstrike for several years when it was released but I haven't really played any FPS multiplayer since then.

How does the multiplayer hold up in this game? I'm planning to buy the PC version if i buy anything. Is it different multiplayer depending console? edit: I mean can pc and ps3 play with each other or are they separated.

Is there many servers up to choose from? I would hate to buy the game to find out that there's no one playing multiplayer.

Does multiplayer get boring fast or do you guys think we will see people active in multiplayer 1+ year from now on?

feel free to add any other information I might have not asked, after all it's you guys playing the game.

thanks in advance for any questions answered.

best regards //Haesten

Hacks I can live with since the game is pretty new and all. Games that supports multiplayer that doesn't contain at least a few hacks nowadays when it get's released is probably nonexistent.

But regarding you comment that they don't care what do you base it on? I'm not saying your wrong but a company obviously want to make money on the things they make and if they don't care about fixing stuff, bad rep will spread and people wont buy the game.

MP is a blast, it is way more balanced than CoD/BFBC2.

+1 I luv the MP, nothing more satisfying than doing a mid air melee or double/triple kill

-they are separated

-not so many with people playing. the total count of servers is like 1500

-it doesnt get boring fast, but bugs and cheaters already rejected the majority of people from the game, i think only fanboys will play it in 1+

so wait bf3 and save your money

I have never seen this many hacks in anygame I have purchased. I damn near bought them all. The game itself is sweet in my opinion. If you can get in a nice clean game. I admin a server and I spend more time banning than playing.

The MP is great in my opinion, though it has currently numerous issues but Crytek is working on fixing everything (There's also a new patch coming out next week which, like most other patches, improves anti-cheat measures(along with other improvements)).

I read in some other thread where they where talking about leveling up. Do i earn scores in multiplayer (or level) to buy better gear upgrades? How does that work when people have different levels and you choose a server?

As you earn score in multiplayer (by killing, doing the objective or completing challenges) it also adds to your experience. As you earn experience you eventually rank up. Upon ranking up you earn certain unlock tokens which you can spend to unlock new weapons, modules and dog tags to use.

There is a server modifier for new recruits only which only allows people under a certain rank to play. There are also unranked servers you can play in which do not change your profile at all (however you cannot earn progress in them normally) so you can learn the game there.

I wouldnt be concerned about higher ranked players as the best things are available quite early on. Infact the first gun you can use is pretty much the best on the game at the moment. The only powerful unlock thats quite late is Nano Recharge 2 which depending on how you play wont be unlocked until the mid 30 ranks.

thank you, that explains a lot.

If anyone got anything else to add that is a lot different from other fps that i forgot to ask please do so :) After all I don't know much about the game apart from the youtube clips I've seen.

I say buy the game and play through the single player mode so you get a feel for the overall game. That in itself will help prep you for the MP. I'm replaying through the SP in 3D this time and at least for me it's a fun game. Hopefully the patch due next week will help solve some of the MP issues.
Have Fun!

Well its a nowdays FPS MP copy, mean a COD blackops 100% copy with a nanosuit. So nothing original, very small map, boring grindfest to unlock weapon and perk, small player amount in a party, fast round. no tactic requier, just rush and kill....

well you like thoses MP game or not. Personaly, i find this thing pretty boring, fast as the short match time.

After since the Crysis2 Editor is coming, maybe in serval month there will be really interesting MP mod. But for the moment, yeah this MP its pretty pointless. I was bored of the MP after 1-2weeks.. so well.

Ok so you're first multiplayer game is probably gonna be horrible, but stick with it and try and get on the New Recruits servers, you'll eventually pick up, it's a hard game for everyone I'm level 49, 1 level from the max and I still have many -ve K/D ratio games. I'm looking forward to next week's patch which should help me out a bit, sick of dieing instantaniously from spoof headshots.

The multiplayer is the most fun I've had in a PC game since playing games like Halo 1 PC, Counterstrike, and DOD when I was new to PC gaming. And i've played just about every release in between.

http://attentiondeficitdinosaur.com/

That's an article I typed up when I played the demo attempting to explain to others why i enjoyed it so much. They fixed pretty much all the issues I mention. :)

I stand by what I said, and if anything, I feel more extreme. I play VERY smart and tactically, using cover, keeping my suit energy in check, etc etc, and I'm able to consistently go 4:1 KD. This game LOVES smart players and it loves skill.

Aside from the Hackers, bugs and some balancing-problems, the MP is fun.

Hopefully the Hackers and the bugs will be dispatched with some patches (yes, plural, cuz I don't believe that Crytek is able to do this with one patch).

With the balancing I mean, that at the moment some weapons are that superior, that it's almost senseless to use another weapon.
For example, the Scar (your first weapon) will be one of the best weapons you'll ever have. The Grendel, which is a heavier Scar (imho) is without a certain degree of luck and skill useless, cuz you can't fire fast enough to let the higher damage take effect.

And if you like gunfights...you will suffer a lot of defeats. Most of the pistols are not very effective.

But I believe that this will be fixed sometime, and then Crysis 2 will be awesome in MP!

I hope that this text is understandable...English is not my native language.

Depends on what you like. C2 MP is nothing but a COD clone with 10 minute games. If you want real, battlefield style play with vehicles , big maps and long games, come over to Crysis Wars.
