Do silencers reduce damage?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 8:29 am

I've heard attaching a silencer reduces the damage it does... is that true?

Yes its true. In most cases it reduces low end damage but some weapons recieve hits to both max and minimum damage. The DSG recieves no damage penalty at all however which is the only exception.

Excuse me if I'm wrong but silencers only reduce the range of the weapon. Not the damage.

Wrong, this isn't Call of Duty.

The blue numbers are the silenced damage of weapons. The green numbers indicate single fire mode.

Yeah, it reduces damage and range. Its the type of suppressor that you use normal bullets with. The suppressor slows down the round as it passes through the suppressor, bringing it down to subsonic speeds so there is no sonic crack. And as usual, it baffles all the gasses and lets them cool before they leave the barrel so there is no loud blast. You still get a hellish "crack" from the gas ports though. No way to suppress that.

It would be nice if we could buy special subsonic cartridges with heavier bullets that would give us the same range and damage but not go beyond the speed of sound.

Maybe in real life. But in the game there is no range/damage loss. Look at the link I posted, those values are taken directly from the game files.

Hmm, well, in Wars there is loss of damage, I know. Its very obvious when you try to kill someone.

WTF? Grendel single shot has the same damage as SCAR single shot? That's just wrong. No wonder people only use the same weapons all around.

Yeah, the scar needs to be nerfed even more, I'm not sure why they didn't adjust it's damage or spread even more. That or the Graendal needs a damage buff.

You could silence a single-shot Grendel (although I don't know what its damage would end up as - the single-shot number, the silenced number, the normal value or something entirely different) which could be a slight advantage over using a single-shot SCAR, when silenced single-shot Grendels are actually silenced that is.

I still haven't gotten around to unlocking the Assault Scope for my Feline - I intend to use a silenced single-shot Feline with an Assault Scope as it is a recipe for success that I am pre-emptively dubbing the 'lolcat'.

The good thing about the Grendel is that it has greater effectiveness against armor in the damage table.

Except for the fact that the Feline doesn't have single shot. It's full auto only.

It is a significant drop.

Assuming you are hitting the torso the SCARAB takes 5-6 shots to kill. 8-9 on someone in Maximum Armor.
A silencer changes this to 6-7 and 8-10 on someone in Maximum Armor. These values skyrocket if you are hitting a limb.

Eve the smallest amount of damage difference can make or break an encounter.

Either way, why the hell would you want to sacrifice rate of fire and extended mags for single shot mode? That's it's strongest point. You certainly don't take the Feline for it's bullet damage. At least you shouldn't be, the Feline doesn't get a damage boost in single shot mode.

There is damage loss.

As you saw in the link f3llyn posted....

Scarab, full auto.
24-20 depending on range of target.

Scarab - Silenced, full auto.
23-18 depending on range of target. (Blue numbers)

Marshall (Gray numbers)
30-5 damage PER pellet (x8) depending on range.
Marshall - Silenced (Blue numbers)
30-3 damage PER pellet (x8) depending on range.

EDIT: Grendel single shot not being silenced with a silencer is a confirmed glitch.
