Working solution to multi GPU flickering w/o disabling a GPU

Hi all,

just wanted to share this sweet little solution with you. I am running Crysis 2 with an ATI 6990 (5970 before) and had the same flickering problems everybody had. However - accidentally - I found a solution to this problem.
I have a multi monitor setup with different monitors and I wanted to try out how Crysis 2 perfoms with 3 displays.
In order to get this to work I am using a software called SoftTH. When I first started it, I couldn't believe my eyes: the flickering was gone! I rechecked it over and over, but it really solved the problem - with BOTH GPUs running!

You don't have to use multiple displays to get this to work. I will run you right through this easy setup, so you can check it out for yourselves! ;)

1. get the SoftTH tool - go to http://softth.com/?page_id=92 and download the latest beta version of the software. make sure you download the 32bit version, because this always depends on the game and NOT on the OS you are running.

2. setup a config file - easy stuff. you can either go here: http://softth.com/config-creator.html - it's a small java program that helps you create a setup or you can either copy this default setup:
Code:
[main]
renderResolution=2560x1600
nonlocalFormat=RGB32
keepComposition=0
smoothing=1
debugD3D=0
zClear=0
vsync=0
tripleBuffer=0
screenshotFormat=jpg
dllPathD3D9=auto
dllPathDXGI=auto
dllPathD3D11=auto
[overrides]
forceResolution=0
antialiasing=0
processAffinity=0
FOVForceHorizontal=0
FOVForceVertical=0

[head_primary]
sourceRect=0,0,2560,1600
screenMode=2560x1600

MAKE SURE YOU CHANGE THE RESOLUTION SETTINGS! I play at 2560 x 1600 - so you might want to change this to the resolution you are playing in.

3 - Last step - copy both files (d3d9.dll + config.SOFTTHCONFIG) to the binary folder of your crysis 2 installation. e.g. C:\Games\crysis2\bin32 (whereever you have crysis installed)

Now launch the game and enjoy flicker free entertainment!

btw: bad job Crytek for not being able to solve this in a timely manner!

I own a 5970 and this is working... but it actually disable crossfire and I cannot force it back up when using SoftTH for this game.
Back to using the radeonpro bioshock crossfire profile for me!

On a cleanly freshly formatted (Yes everytimes a game have a problem I try this to be super sure its not a logistical problem with windows)
With all the latest drivers and the latest catalyst profile I still get the crazy flickering.

But this dx9 hijack is amazing and I started to use it in other games with great effects.
I love the smoothing and FOVForce entry.
