Crysis 2, BIG PROBLEM!

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 12:14 pm

OK, first I apologize if it's no for here.
Second, here are my configs of my comp(it's a laptop):
Windows 7
32bit
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.00GHz
nVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS
2GB RAM
Third,I bought the Crysis 2 game and I've read the requirements of the game, I know my video card is below the minimum, but that's not the problem. When I start the game the first 10-15 seconds it's ok, but after that it starts to lagg, A LOT. Something is wrong, with the game or it's me? I've also read that on some people it uses 600-900MB of RAM, in my case it uses (the game) 1,5-1,7GB of RAM, that's why it's starts to lagg. But why it uses so much RAM, and on other people it doesn't. Everything is on LOW (HIGH, since there isn't actually "low"), I also try to add some things in the system.cfg file, but with no result. Also I downloaded a program called "Crysis 2 Advanced Graphic Settings", and removed everything and STILL uses almost all of my RAM. I've read too, that people with 1GB of RAM run it without problem, and I posted this on one other forum and they told me that it's not the RAM, and to post this here. Please HELP ME, I have the game almost from a week now and I almost haven't played it. PLEASE HELP!

No offence to you but that laptop is very low-spec by todays standards. My performance isn't great and my system is a good bit more powerful than yours despite being 4 years old. Firstly I would say the 2ghz Core Duo will hold you back especially in multiplayer. My PC is CPU limited playing this game and I have a 3ghz Core Duo.

Secondly as for memory, when you say it uses 1.7gb memory - do you mean for the Crysis2.exe process only or the full system memory use when playing. Also, as your playing on a laptop GFX card, is your GFX card sharing system memory?

Really the only thing I could suggest would be an upgrade of some kind. You may be able to stick some more system memory in which could improve performance slightly and make the laptop generally more responsive in Windows. However the other components would still hold you back - maybe time to see if you can get a more modern laptop.

Sorry if this is not the news you want to hear.

Yeah, it's definitely isn't what I wanted to hear, but it's cool. I know my PC isn't the best and have very low specs. I'm gonna buy a new on in the summer, but damn I don't want to wait THAT long to play the game, but in the end if I don't have any other choice....So...about the memory...before I start the game it uses about 500MB max RAM, (with only mi anti-virus on and the DEAMON TOOLS) that's about 30%, after I start the .exe in the main menu it's on about 40%, and after I start the game (for example I press the "Resume Game") it's starts loading and It doesn't actually stats till it's on 80-83%, even if it has already loaded. And then when I start playing it goes on 93%, and it's f*cked up. About the GFX card, well when I go to the nVIDIA control panel, it says "Shared memory: 767MB", so I guess so. I wish I could buy a new one RIGHT NOW, but I can't.Also how could I play the first one (crysis 1) without any lagg, and it even has bigger requirements. And some other thing, then how do the other people with 1GB of RAM play it without ANY problem, on low of course (some even play it on better resolution than the lower one)???!!!

I just ran a quick test on my system.

Windows 7 usually has around 1GB in use most times.
The Crysis2.exe uses around 1.2 GB
My GFX memory uses another 600MB

I run mine at full HD with high settings on an x64 OS. Your system has 2GB that is shared with the GFX card so I would expect it to be hitting the pagefile quite often even if you lower all settings. Personally I'm quite surprised people with 1GB memory can load the game at all.

If your laptop can take a memory upgrade you may be able to get a second user one on eBay for cheap which might improve things until you can properly upgrade.

Just another thing, when was the last time you did a full system re-install. Wiping everything and putting a fresh install of the OS on. Doing this can often get rid of bloatware and junk that clutters up your RAM. Did you do a clean install yourself or does your laptop have one of those discs with tons of bloatware crap all over it?

I re-installed my windows about 2-3 months max ago. But I didn't formatted it, before I installed the new one. But now I remembered that it maybe the fan, since from a few weeks now it makes a really weird sound, and I probably should check it. And one other thing, my windows isn't original though, and it's on USB drive, since my DVD/CD drive can't read disc (yeah really f*cked up xD). About buying RAM, well if I'm gonna buy something I'd actually prefer to be a whole new laptop.

P.S. I'm gonna shutdown my PC now so I can clean it, and I'm probably be here after and hour.

perhaps you could search for a tweaking thread or mod

in that way you can lower your game graphics manually and improve performance (obviously it won't look as good)

though im not sure, some people said that the 1.4 update blocked a lot of custom commands

Човек, вземи си настолно РС, а не лаптоп ако искаш да играеш нормално.

@ TriAngleChoke Give me 1000 euro, right now, and I'll gladly do it, but right now I don't have them, at the end of the summer I'll have them, but now I don't, btw there are people with WAAAAAAAYYYYYY LOWER specs than mine that can play the game, but how the f*********ck do they do it???!!!!That's the question.

@ Masterguix I've tried the tweaking threads, with programs, adding them in the system.cfg, in the console, but the game still uses too much of my ram. Is there a way to, like, lower the shared memory that my graphic card uses???

P.S As I said there are people with 1GB of RAM that play the game without problems, and a person from another forum told me that he has 2GB of RAM and play it too without problems.

I'm currently playing and the game is using 1.2 GB of RAM. Win7 needs a GB and some of RAM too so you can try XP or buy a new whatever that you plan on buying. I don't know what did you expect from a PC with such low properties with a such heavy game playing on it...

Maybe I'll try the XP (even if I don't like how it looks) but how then I can play the 1st Crysis (since it has bigger requirements(as far as I know))????(but I won't install the xp right now since I've got a lot of work to do, but thats other story, but till night if I haven't found a solution, I won't have another choice but to put myself an XP)

You can dual boot and keep your 7 too.
You can probably run many games, the things is are they playable? If you have low FPS what's the point of playing...

What is your frame rate in Crysis while in a battle?

OOOhh right, I forgot about the dual boot, thaks a lot.
About the Crysis 1, well.....hell if I know....it was a long time ago, but it wasn't lagging AT ALL. Of course, all most everything was on low and some of the other things were on medium, I "THING" that there were some on High (very doubtful though, xD)
