For Maximum settings

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:12 am

Hi people, I have a good computer but I think that my graphic card can′t run it crysis 2 on maximum settings. My setup is:
Intel core 2 Quad 2.6 Ghz
4 Gb kingston DDR3 1333 Mhz
ATI Radeon 4850HD 512 Mb (powercolor)
Sonud blaster X-Fi Xtreme gamer 5.1
630W power supply

I've been thinking about changing my graphics card to a GTX 460(VGA) with 1024 Mb.
With this new graphics card I can play with maximum graphics and a good level of FPS?
Thanks in advance

Given Crysis 2 is touted to be DX11 you can't use maximum settings.
RAM wise you're fine.
CPU wise I'd overclock that, albiet it's fine.

Graphics card wise you're in the region of DX9/DX10 performance of 9800GTX/GTS250/GTS450.

Minimum spec denotes an 8800GT/9800GT, yours is one ahead within the same series..
So, comfortably you'd play minimum.

It's unlikely that you can play in the very highest settings, but the GTX 460 should be an improvement on what you already have.

However, alot of the graphical beauty is beause of the advanced shader techniques use by the CryENGINE. The GTX 460 isn't the fastest card when it comes to shader operations, compared to newer ATi cards (eg. Radeon HD 5xxx)of equal price range.

I may be completely wrong though :)

With the GTX 460 you could run Crysis 2 in DX11 but certainly not max it.

If you want to max Crysis 2 at DX11 you should be looking at a GTX 480/570, or a Radeon HD 5870.

I'm running dual 460's with no worries about being able to max it, but I also have i7 950 and 12 gigs of ram.

I'm going to be surprised if you can max the settings with anything less than a 64 bit processor so if I were you after swapping the graphics cards I would be thinking about upgrading the processor and bump the RAM to at least 8 gig.

I lol'ed at idiocy.

No one knows what'll max it, it's all speculation.

And to the person who suggested that the 5870 was in the same league as a 480/570, I lol'ed.

In tessellation they demolish the 5870.

Its not even sure yet that Crysis 2 uses any Direct X 11 exclusive features.
All your so called infos refer to the genral abilities of the Cryengine 3.
So dont tell anyone crap like: your DX10 card will not be able to max Crysis 2.. thats simply not true.

But the 4850HD 512 Mb could be the bottleneck in your system @THA.
To really max out Crysis and Crysis 2 i would refer you to the 4870 or the GTX 280.
If youre going to buy a new grfxcard then go for the gtx 460 TI.

Yes, but crysis 2 isn't confirmed to have tessellation, and likely not extensive tessellation. In that case it doesn't matter :)

Still, i'd buy a gtx560 instead of a hd5870. The hd5870 is an old card now (although it's still awesome, i should know, i've had one since launch).

If I were you I'd keep my old card until release of the full game, scan the forums for benchmarks and Youtube for gameplay (Youtubers will list their specs often in the video title so search Crysis 2 gameplay 580 for example) with the various cards that interest you and then decide based on that. Common sense really. Nobody here has a Crystal ball.

And don'y worry about waiting days or anything people will be putting up their benchmarks and stuff before the postman has reached the end of the drive way.

If Crysis 2 does support DX11 tessellation, I hope there will be graphic settings to it (low, medium, high), not just an on/off button.

The settings are probably classified like Crysis:Warhead - Mainstream, gamer and enthusiast in theory with respect to each individual Pc.... ;)

I also hope that you can customize the level of tesselation from low-medium-high. I generally like 30fps in singleplayer and 60fps in multiplayer, so varying levels of tesselation would be great so that I can use it without having to over sacrifice or under sacrifice performance.

Yeah, for max. performance without any risk... though it would be nice if we could test this out soon. Rather than theorize and make assumptions out of thin air.... ;)

Would I be able to run Crysis 2 at high/very high settings at 1440x900 resolution?
These are my computer specs:

-Windows XP Home Edition 2002(SP3)
-Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7400 @2.8GHz/2.8GHz
-3.25 GB RAM
-NVidia GeForce 9800 GT 512GB

I have the first Crysis and I can run that at high settings no problem at all while averaging 50 FPS.

It was said in a dev video that a Core i7, 4gb ram, a 64-bit os (Win 7 was used) and a GTX 200-series card would "eat the game" at what appears to be 1280x1024.

The dev video is fairly old however, and that was for the editor mode, not just the pure game. Chances are 'maxing it out' at a high rez (1080p at least) will require 4gb ram (or more), and i7 (fairly high clock) and a GTX 4xx or higher series card (a 480, possibly). That is just speculations on my part, however.

LOLZ I hope they have an option for very high tessellation where the wireframes will just look like you taped down the shortcut key for sub-divide on Blender and went for a coffee. pretty much like in the Unigine benchmark.

PS: This is not sarcasm!

Well finally I decided. I going to buy a GTX 560TI/OC 1Gb. I have read several articles and is apparently very good.

Return to Crysis
