Crysis turning off my laptop

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 6:58 am

I just bought and installed crysis 2 today and when i started playing it, it allows me to play for approx 15 min before it shuts off the computer. I have never had this problem before on my comp. Anyone experiencing the same or any pointers on how to fix it?

Well lucky for you in 15 minutes you can fit approximately 5 games. So play 5 games then leave and relaunch Crysis 2. Lol.

@Taskedask I don't wanna sound like a douche, but did you check you plugged in your power cable when you play something as energy drainign as Crysis on a laptop? (you never mentioned about power supply in your original post :P)

Oh i also forgot to mention, Crysis 2 has bad optimization that causes the GPU to overheat faster. Every game i own my temps max out at 65c crysis 2 for some reason pushes my gpu to 80c. download msi afterburner and check.

If this is the problem, can that be fixed in anyway? Also. Is there any way to uninstall the game and then try to install it again

wow people, you sound supportive, hey bro brah, your gear is overheating, this game is very optimized, how ever it relies a lot on on the cpu for graphic operations, the ai takes a big chunk as well, but sounds like its shutting off because of heat issues, especially if its a laptop. Who manufactures your CPU? please dont tell me AMD because then i just found your problem.

It only shows that Crytek follows its slogan to the bitter end.

Maximum energy conservation!

It is a heating issue indeed, i followed the advice from KING_OF_SAND and downloaded the msi afterburner, im laying on steady 80 when not playing it, and as soon as i start it just goes straight up. Not sure when the comp turns of due to overheating but i didnt want to go over 100 degrees C.

As for my CPU i have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i5 CPU M 450 @ 2.40GHz

There is nothing you can do. you will have to wait until Crytek optimizes the game or AMD/Nvidia releases a fix. I remember L4D2 had the same issue on release. You could try and drop your settings and see if that will lower temps. But this is a problem that really can not be fixed on your part.

Chances are your computer is turning off either due to the Nvidia safety feature which disables the GPU at a specific temp or you Intel CPU is getting hot. Sense the GPU is so close to the CPU your GPU in a laptop it is probably overheating the CPU. Most of the time when a GPU overheats it throttles the card to 2d clocks and can sometimes lead to a shut down. But CPU overheat will ALWAYS lead to a shutdown.

I would recommend not to play this game just to avoid any damage.

I would buy a can of pressurized air and give the fan fins a good blow "there might be a lot of dust" blocking the ai flow. A cooling mat would also help. Also you could try lifting the back of your laptop "put something small underneath to allow for better air flow". Lastly i would recommend getting an external keyboard as if you rest your palm on the laptoitself you are essentially adding hear to your machine.

This way i always stay under 69 celsius ! with i3 ati 5650 oc to 700/950 and 8gb ram
