Crysis 2 composer?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 9:32 am

This has been something running through my mind over the past few weeks. Way back when "The Wall" trailer debuted, I was immediately interested in seeing what else the game might be doing musically. The 360 demo and some of the more recent trailers have gotten me even more excited about the game's soundtrack.

I had enjoyed the score for Crysis, but it wasn't something that really stuck with me after finishing the game. That's already proving to be different with the sequel before it's even been released, and I'm finding myself increasingly curious about who the composer is - or composers are - for this. Is Inon Zur returning? If not, who? (And before anyone says it, yes, I've seen the unsubstantiated claims that Hans Zimmer is composing music for Crysis 2, but I'm ignoring such things until I see something actually indicating that that is true outside of a poor comparison between Zimmer's work elsewhere and the music from the 360 demo.)

And is there any news on a soundtrack release? Would the rendition of "New York, New York" from "The Wall" trailer be included?

I don't think there's been any information released, but it seems to be the case that Hans Zimmer is doing the score. It wouldn't surprise me either, I just had a listen of some of the supposed "leaked" tracks from the album... incredible.

Actually it has been confirmed that Hans Zimmer makes/made the score of Crysis 2.
You can take a look over to amazon or to Hans Zimmer's personal Homepage.
Once again hans Zimmer is working with Lorne Balfe who also helped Hans Zimmer with the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Soundtrack.
And we all know how awesome MW2's Score is, right?

Cheers mates!

Thanks for the info, guys.

And yeah, agreed that the Modern Warfare 2 soundtrack was pretty damn good. (It's one of the best in the COD series, I'd say - second only to the original's score by Michael Giacchino, who is one of my personal favorite modern composers.) I'm generally not a big fan of Zimmer, as a lot of his work tends to just start sounding very similar after a while, but his recent score for Inception was nothing short of inspired, and I'm already very impressed with Crysis 2's soundtrack, which seems to feature a similar infusion of string-heavy orchestral work with 80's-like synth.

Still hoping that the (hopefully) inevitable soundtrack release will include Polly Scattergood's performance of "New York, New York", though, since it was recorded specifically for the game's trailer.
