Exclusive: Crysis 2 producer talks PS3 demo

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 10:05 am

.
At Electronic Arts' "Swing Into Spring" event yesterday, Crysis 2 Executive Producer Nathan Camarillo spoke with PSU about a potential PS3 demo and post-launch downloadable content for Crytek's upcoming first-person shooter.

Though he couldn't outright confirm a demo for Sony's black box, Camarillo said that PlayStation gamers "can probably hope for one."

If they don't announce it relatively soon it probably won't happen. It doesn't make sense to hand out a demo any later than the first week of March.

True a demo would have to be pre-release.

Sarcasm? The game isn't coming out until the end of March right? So the first week of March would be pre release :s

Sorry =) Well the PC demo is out 1st march and will most likely run for 2 weeks as xbox demo so it's possible any time around the 15th of march. I can't see them running two demos at once.

Would you not agree though that by giving a demo to PS3 users so late they are effectively preventing them from giving any feedback on the game, whereas the PC users will be able to give pre-release feedback?

This is why I don't see the point at all of releasing a demo any later than the first week. Plus, if you're right about them not running two demos at once, why on earth would anyone bother releasing a demo the week before release? surely it would take more hassle to get it out for download than it would to just make them wait another week for the full title.

If you're right, then I suspect we won't be seeing a demo at all.

This being said, I would happily settle or them allowing reviewers like IGN etc to get their hands on a demo for review purposes even if we don't. At least that way I can see how the gameplay runs etc before purchase, without giving up any pre-order bonuses.

I agree to a certain extent don't forget the data collected from the xbox demo will most likely be used on both platforms and the possibility alot of tweaks can be server based!

I think EA is holding out on the ps3 demo/videos because there trying to give killzone 3 a head start before crysis 2 destroys it EA and sony or like best friends forever, you'll probably start seeing more ps3 videos/pics a few days/weeks after killzone 3's been released.

Good Point I believe crytek are more than happy to show PS3 footage but it's EA calling the shots at the moment, hold tight tho PS3 gameplay is incoming! Perhaps there is a deal between Sony and EA to hold tight on crysis 2 until KZ3 is on the store shelves. If I was Sony I'd be worried this could be the first multi plat game to destroy all exclusives

He also adds he wasn't too impressed with the gameplay of the MP demo (360) but thinks the engine is worth noting. http://www.destructoid.com/jimpressions-crysis-2-multiplayer-demo-192451.phtml

it's to get a feel for the game and let more ps3 users who havent heard of this game to go download the demo and may buy the game which means more cash for crytek. Just think the way they think it aint hard.
