Sandbox Inclusion May Be Critical

I greatly enjoyed the strength of Sandbox 2. Easily importable assets, as well as flexible C++ support, led to a set of tools that opened up a lot of options for prospective content creators wishing to expand their portfolios, in a big way.

The inclusion of Sandbox 3 with Crysis 2, quite frankly, will determine my ultimate purchase of the game.

It seems like a cool game. Polished, with multiplayer that's cool, and a continuation of that action-packed Crysis story. But I want to be able to take those New York assets, possibly sprinkling in some extras from the Lingshan Islands, and create new content for what looks to be a well-optimized and slicker CryEngine 3. Will I have to wait for Patch 1? Will I get the Sandbox at all? I know Cevat Yerli has talked of competing with Unreal and Unity by releasing a freemium engine.

If that engine is CryEngine 3, I won't be getting Crysis 2. As well, if Crysis 2 doesn't include Sandbox, then I will instead opt for Crysis Warhead, which I to this day do not own.

Crysis Warhead does not come with the Sandbox editor, let alone the Sandbox 2 *.cry files. The multiplayer portion though, comes with *.cry files for the multiplayer part, and the Sandbox 2 for the multiplayer is included in the Mod SDK for Crysis Wars (Multiplayer for Warhead).

Trust me, although buggy, Sandbox 3 is better than Sandbox 2 in almost every way.

Guess I'll just stick with my copy of Crysis, then.

Aside from being suspicious as to how you imply that you know that for sure, my question was about whether or not Sandbox 3 will ship with or be patched into Crysis 2.

I'm picking it up no matter what, but I would wind up picking it up on 360 if the live create is available to us. Granted I think having some sort of "map editor" for the consoles is more vital for this game than having Sandbox 3 day one on PC, with out it it just blends into the rest of the FPS games out there, and consoles are the majority of the market so if it does bad on the PS3/360 no matter how well it does on PC it would be hard pressed for EA to green light future projects from Crytek. Here's hoping the put the full Sandbox on PC within a week and include some sort of watered down version for the 360 and PS3.

I think Live create is only available for game developers and not the general public?.

^What he said. I'm really hoping for an editor (watered down or not) for the 360.

Considering that the profits on PC are so large nowadays (70% from steam for example compared to 20-25% from retail for console), i think selling 1m on each console would be good enough for EA combined with the 2-3m it'll get on PC. It'd be the equivalent of selling 12m copies purely on console. If crytek make a good PC shooter, their future is easily secure even if the console versions bomb.

Bad company 2 sold about the same on PC as each console, yet profits were much higher on PC than both consoles combined. It's the reason why EA has started loving the PC again :)

You can download the Crysis Wars trial for free and that comes with full LAN and Modding support - free.
