PC Multiplayer Demo - Melee tweaked or not?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 3:58 am

As we know melee has been tweaked since the Xbox360 demo ended. Is the PC demo going to contain this change or are we going to have to suffer through people camping in Cloak waiting to melee someone?

Also is it possible for us to know what exactly you did to change the melee balance/system?

Mouse and keyboard allows for a much faster response time so it shouldn't be much of an issue whether its "tweaked" or not.

Think before you click submit please.

Everybody is playing with a mouse and keyboard which includes the cloak campers. On top of this a persons response time is the same regardless of what they are using. The mouse and keyboard allows for better accuracy, not response time.

Also, let me know when you can react faster than 0 seconds because thats how long it takes for melee to drop somebody.

Changing input devices doesnt fix broken balance, sorry.

Why don't you think? When people can actually aim a damn weapon on a target they will find it much easier to shoot them in the head instead of running all the way over to them just to smack them and watch the enemy toggle armor mode and counter it.

Like I said before, you will see that melee will not be so bad on PC.

If you want a real reference, just look at melee differences on the PC compared to console for Black Ops. Its much less frequency on PC even though it has the same "balance", because its much easier to fire a weapon on PC and much more frustrating on console to shoot a weapon.

Why dont I think? You are the one claiming a persons reaction speed magically improves when they have a different object in their hand.

Whether you can aim or not doesnt matter because melee is/was an instant kill. People cloak, sit around a corner and just tap the melee button as soon as an enemy walks by. You cant kill them with bullets faster than they can drop you with an OHK melee hit. Did you even play the Xbox demo?

If you did im sure you were one contributing to the problem.

Why should you melee when its easier to just shoot the person?

Melee was a one hit kill in Crysis and a 2 hit kill in Crysis Wars and I NEVER had the issue of getting melee'd too much. People get killed by it a couple times and then come whine about it on the forums because they are too simple minded to find a counter.

Crysis 2 has many modules that show cloakers or tracks footsteps quite clearly that wasn't in the demo. There is NO reason to whine about it.

Changing inputs makes a huge difference in terms of reaction time and whether or not its worth actually taking a shot when its actually possible to aim with a mouse.

i think what talon is trying to say is that it takes longer to aim at something with an anolog stick than with a mouse. for example, with a mouse you could look behind you really fast but with an anolog stick it would take about a half of a second. but people may say "just turn up the sensitivity" but if you do that you will loose your accuracy because your aiming would be so "frigidity". with a mouse you can have high "sensitivity" while stll having high accuracy. way easier to aim and track a person with a mouse.

People camping round corners dont have footsteps and there is a corner blocking your line of sight to them until you are within melee range. Derp derp you are bad at this.

Honestly.. easier to shoot than melee? Do a press a button that-

1) Instantly kills my opponent.
2) Kills them after a second.

Hmm gee hard choice. But oh wait.. you think its HARDER to press the melee button than the fire button..

Also you need to learn what reaction time means. You use the term a lot and yet you are so wrong about it. In the context of a first person shooter reaction time is how long it takes you to REACT to whats happening. Its is NOT how long it takes you to get on target. Whether I take 0.5 seconds to get on target or 3 seconds my reaction time could still be the same. As ive said before reaction time does not magically change when you are pressing a button on a gamepad instead of a button on a mouse.

No matter what hes trying to say hes wrong regardless. You can aim as fast as you like its still never going to kill somebody faster with bullets when melee is a one hit kill. Even if you are instantly on target they are going to melee you to death before you kill them with bullets.

Im not talking about people running around meleeing, im talking about people who sit around corners cloaked waiting for someone to come round.

If you can't see cloakers then that is your fault. A trained eye like me and I was spotting them out clearly watching windowed youtube videos.

Don't run around the edge of corners then or within the shadows and you won't get cloak punched... The cloakers will lurk in the shadows so if you do go in the shadows then scan the area quickly beforehand. Out in the open the cloakers will be easy meat for anyone that has been spotting them out in Crysis games and mods since '07.

And if you have trouble spotting them.. There is the cloak tracker module specifically designed for you. They are easy meat and if you get the eye for it and a good reaction time just from playing any FPS, those pesky cloak punchers won't bother you again.

And this might sound revolutionary but if a puncher comes out of the corner at you - punch them first. If you are run & gunning you should have the quick reaction time to do this anyway. Most people camp because they are a noob and its the only way to get the upper hand on experienced players, who they rely on to run around into their corner. If everybody camps then nobody wins, so just get good at run & gunning and don't whine when you get punched, since you can easily punch them first or shoot them from the superior reflexes you've developed as a run & gunner.

while there are some good points made, I for one would like to see the ''fixed'' melee for the demo. I mean, its not that hard for Crytek to tweak this before the release.

What was it in the demo?

Two body hits and one headshot like in Crysis Wars sounds perfect to me.

Its my fault I cant see through corners and objects to see someone crouching in cloak with his pistol out ready to melee me? Right. You clearly dont understand what im talking about. Its probably due to your poor reading comprehension.

You dont even know the state of melee in the demo and yet you are trying to discuss this? You really are dumb. At least now everyone knows you are talking out of your ass.

Melee was a one hit kill anywhere to the body and a two hit kill if they were in Armor mode. Why are you even trying to debate this when you didnt even play the 360 demo?

Melee camping would be a huge fail. Even if you did kill me that way you'd have to move afterwards because my first thought would be to come come and kill you at re spawn (because when you have a campers location those are among the easiest kills you'll ever get) probably with a grenade or something. Whereas if you shot me in the back of the head I might think I was shot from range and therefore your position remains a mystery to me.

They already fixed the melee about 2 weeks ago. Don't worry, it should be fixed in the PC demo

Why are you trying to debate this when it hasnt been tested on PC? I understand quite clearly what you are talking about and I am surely not talking out my ass. ^-^

Have you played the Crysis franchise since 2007? No? Then don't whine about the cloaking. Its very easy to spot out when you learn what to look for and even if you are incompetent in that regard, Crytek even gives you cloak tracker modules to light up your enemy would-be punchers like a Christmas tree. No reason to whine about something when even Crytek specifically hands out a potential counter measure for you.

Until 0.1 second later when you see the kill cam.

Yes I have played Crysis since it was released actually. Have you? Crysis 1 gameplay is nothing like Crysis 2 anyway so im not sure why are you attempting to use a Red Herring falacy.

In Crysis 1 you couldnt literally OHK someone with melee from Cloak. Armor mode was what pretty much everyone just stayed in online so even if you did land a hit on them you would just get insta-gibbed by a SCAR because you yourself wouldnt be in Armor mode.

You havnt even played the 360 demo and you dont even understand what this thread is about, your opinion is void on this subject.

I would advise you to go improve your reading comprehension because its just terrible.

Well then if your location is known to everybody you kill by all means camp like a baby and see what happens. The most success you could get without a good level of skill it is a 1/1 ratio.

So everybodies location is known to everybody every single time they get a kill and thus everybody on Crysis 2 will have a 1/1 ratio. Bad logic is bad?

i played the 360 demo and i got to rank ten and i barley got meleed. i just wasnt the "leader" who was the one who ran in the room first. running into rooms was a very unsmart idea (in my view) because you have your gun down and it takes time to bring it up. scan the entrance and walk in (not in sprint mode) (dont flame me on this but i pretty much found this tactic out when i was playing swat in halo reach. you almost never want to run because the opponent has an advantage over you)

And not paying attention is bad as well.

You would only die a 1/1 ratio if you managed to get a kill in the 1st place every time are still in the same place after your victim respawns and return to the scene of the crime. And as I said if you are without a good level of skill. There's so many if's built into that scenario your statement is irrelevant and unfounded.

Stop crying seriously. If getting melee'd is a problem for you, use Proximity Alarm and Cloak Tracker. When using them, I was virtually untouchable to melee'ers.

There are plenty of counters to keep the balance in check.

I havent read the whole topic but i think Talon is forgetting about the fact that melee wins to bullets, like even if you start firing and hitting him if the guy presses melee button he wins, if he passes by you but presses the melee, even if not aiming at you, he also wins, its even worse than bc2 knife lol
thats why it needs balancing or tweaking, also its too damn fast
