Paying for extra maps / DLC? Are you crazy?

Post » Fri Dec 31, 2010 7:09 am

You are really now asking money for 'DLC'. I know that the last few years this scam is going on and becoming more and more practice but it is total scam. I paid a game and I’m supposed to get patches that (like just a few year ago) would also give me extra maps, not just fix the bugs. You want to make money with extra stuff, release a real expansion but don't sell just a few maps.

I don't only judge Crytek but also the people stupid enough to buy it. I kept supporting Crytek but this really is the end. I will not buy DLC that I’m supposed to get.

Just a few years ago companies at least knew that extra maps (and more) was a service they are suppose to give. Not some money-maker.

Are those people buying this stuff also aware that buying this stuff in the long run means they will get less maps. Then again, most people these day don't look in the future.

You see, if these companies do sell this stuff to some mass-robots there is a good reason to not allow mods. Why buy payed maps if the community creates them (mostly better maps) for free? So buying this stuff will eventually mean less and 'lesser' maps. (Maybe not in this release but in the future for more and more games)

Not only those people don't look to the future also the companies don't so. Luckily this means they will get the bill for this scam after all. (oow and I don't have any problem with big companies making big money... hell I love it. but don't scam me!) If games become more and more brainless and they keep asking money for DLC and so will not support a modding community, game-classics will go. As far as they are not already gone. GTA was a classic but I think the last one destroyed that (anybody waiting for the new GTA?), same for Mafia, Crysis, Wolfenstein, UT (you see a trend here?)

So that means companies won't get a trusty fan base buying there sequels and so there will be all these lose companies creating one game, people will give it a try and get bored. Then they buy a game from another new companies and all those companies will have a short life. No big companies that are future proof making money for years.

The CEO from Crytek should now he also has a obligation towarts his employee's. But then again, he probably thinks that what he is doing is good, maybe the end-conclusion is that a lot of these CEO's do not have the skills they should have. And once again, I don't have anything gains CEO's that make tons of money (like you hear so much complaining about these days) but you should at least have the skill required. Don't get CEA because of a fiend helping you in or a failing school-system giving you the required papers. (apparently failing if people without the correct skills get the papers)

Now I know nobody will take this post seriously but just remember it when Crytek will die. I had a similar reaction on Philips shutting down there WoWvx program. If they had not they could have become the leader on TV's. Just a few weeks ago they announced they will stop creating TV's. Of course nobody took me serious back then but I told them so. So that makes me more skilled as Gerard Kleisterlee.

Crytek will go the same way within a few years, but since engines and games are there only business they will not end up shutting down one department like Philips but the whole company... Well maybe they can keep creating new engines but I wonder if that will work if the games are bad.

Nobody is forcing you to buy that DLC... Did you really expect it would be free?

Considering that the PC is going to get a map-editor soon, it was acutally logical that the PC will get the maps for free. I mean, why should I buy something when I could get the same thing free (later in this case) anyway?

Console is sort of understandable as they have no other way (even I say for 4 maps 10 bucks is overpriced)

Am I saying I am being forced to buy it? I am saying it should be free.

Did you really expect it would be free?
Uhhm YES!
The problem is that you (and a lot of people nowadays) are expecting it NOT to be free.
They already think this is normal behavior.

I don't know how old you are and when you did buy your first game but just a few years (+-6) ago it was always FREE. (it was then just called patches, or maps not DLC) It is supposed to be free. When you buy a product you should also get some service with it, for a MP-game that are extra maps. The whole paying for this stuff started with the release of the latest console and later also become more and more practice on the PC. Before that it has always been free.

There are still games that have it free.

Have a look for yourself. I'm taking you back just a few years.

Yes. Crytek released new maps in Crysis Wars. They were free.
Crytek didn't make unnecessary payment.

Consoles are indeed a differed story then again, also console-gamers deserve some service.

These companies still don't understand that they need to release a good PC-game to have a good community to give a game a cult-status and so having a long term product and also have better sales on the consoles. (consoles for the selling, PC for the name)

Now games will become just one of the many. No company that can have a long life with that.. yeah the company that cells all these games like EA, but the developers them-self now all become short term companies. None of them want that, its just the cause of bad management.

This game will be dead when BF3 is out, which is a shame cause i love these sci-fi shooters, they're probably workin' on Crysis 3 right now, not giving a flying f uck about anything.

*yes, Crytek, that's how you're coming accross.*

Why bother with Crysis 3? Looks like they are going to break down everything they build up with Crysis 1. (Only the DirectX11 patch might change that)

Like I said, having a good PC-game results in good console-sales. Now if they ask money for this next to the other problems (I did like the game btw) they will destroy there fan-base and Crysis 3 will not sell. Not as a AAA-title at least.

They never said we would be able to play custom maps on live servers.

And yes crysis 2 will be dead if Dice release BF3 later this year ;)

Thanks crytek for arround 100 hours of SP and MP (20 hours of loggin in and wait for the server to start ;) )
