gfx card bottleneck : Crysis

Yeah over 3.67ghz my processor becomes unstable. The stock clock was 2.5ghz though.

Another reason to upgrade is the fact that I do a lot of video editing, although this doesn't have anything to do with crysis It does have to do with my overall reason to upgrade.

Yea if you do allot of video editing I would upgrade if you can as that would give you a big boost that is for sure.

I know your CPU can go much higher if it came at 3.5 stock. what motherboard do u have?

Yeah this game is very CPU bound. Got my Athlon II X4 running very hot with high load.

yea it still can go higher than stock I have no idea how much high as every chip is different.

Here read this it will get u started overclocking and also show u the basics. it really is allot easier then it looks trust me. The number one rule is patience and do not ever give up unless u hit your max temp.

I find the game heavy on my CPU. I have a Core2Duo running at 2.8ghz and I get circa 30fps. My GTX460 is barely being used 30-40%. The game is still pretty fluid for the most part. I would have thought a Duo @ 3.6+ would be enough to get a decent FPS but if your aiming for 50-60fps then a Quad maybe worthwhile.

Exactly what I have been saying.

My C2D is at 3.4ghz and I get maybe 10fps better. A 6870 would be seriously bottlenecked and wasted.

What about a 6850 or gtx460 with my dual core 3.7ghz?

I have a GTX460 with my Core Duo and the CPU limits the FPS. I'm running at 2.8 so you should still get better FPS than me. Another consideration is that ATI cards presently use less CPU resources than their Nvidia equivalents. Still, a Core Duo at 3.7 and a GTX460 should be enough for a decent gaming experience.
