CRYTEK: Are you aware of the Orbital Strike server lag?

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 3:48 am

the massive lag from orbital strike tends to only happen on skyline. The reason behind this is the ridiculous amount of glass in the map. When an orbital strike is deployed, the sheer amount of data being spewed out from shattering glass causes the ridiculous lag you see. It's not a problem with orbital strikes, but rather the processing required to keep track of all the bits of glass being thrown about.

this of course, is just my theory, and I could be 100% wrong.

You are 100% wrong, happens to me on almost every level.
Its very enjoyable, if you are fast you can get some 3-4 kills in between ;)

Also it is very annoying because you cant reload and you die half a mile from where you were, having
moved so fast to get the kills, but you do get them even though you are dead.
Nice addition, i think that is the balance they are talking about.
Because the teams are still formed very moronically.

interesting. I've ONLY ever experienced it on skyline. Maybe it has to do with the player's PC build and abilities....

yea i doubt that i lock up on all maps when there is an orbital strike near by. I run this game at Max settings and 60 fps. My comp is def not the problem.

Not sure about you guys but in the Demo there was no lag, it seems that lags occurs on servers that have multiple levels. If you hit the strike over a building its an automatic lag but if you hit it outside on a road "wall stree" its ok... thats just me

You know it's more complex than this. What are the specifics of your rig? How about your best connection speed?

I've never seen any lag with OS, regardless of the map.

We've known about it for a while. People that post new threads on the same topic cause the requirement of merging threads (see your most recent thread). Please don't spam topics.

Oh and my recent thread was about more bugs then just the orbital strike...
You comment on one of them but I see now that you didnt look into it? according to the patch preview :(

Oh and here that thread if you want to merge that as well or be reminded :)

We've known about it for a while.
Glad you guys are getting those fixes out so fast for things you've known about... for a while. I know you guys are busy making the next DLC pack. THANKS FOR ALL OF THE HARD WORK...

I see what you did there =P

In all seriousness though (DLC Pack ridiculousness aside) they're releasing an update at least, so we may as well take that in stride.
