whether i start a new game or use a save one it works ok for a few minutes then my screen goes completely black but my laptop is still on but wont respond The game was working fine the first days and out of nowhere it started to do this my laptop is not overheating the dvd/cd player works fine but when it come to oblivion it does that I did what it tells you to do i defragment the laptop and everything uninstalled it and it still does the same can anyone help?

I have the exactly same problem but i dont know what do do either... and it makes the geme unplayable :brokencomputer:

A few things to try.....

Try deleting the .ini file in your My Documents\My Games\Oblivion folder....it is the configuration file named Oblivion. Delete it, then refire up the game so a new one gets generated...see if there are any improvements then.


Also, because you are using onboard audio, try disabling music through the .ini file. Open the file with Notepad and do a CTRL+F to search for this line:

bMusicEnabled=1

change that value to 0 and save the file. Then try again. This game can have issues with onboard audio with music being rather strenuous.


Lastly, Codecs....a few of them from Cyberlink. This game and most Bethesda games are iffy with too many codecs. May want to give K-Lite's Codec Pack (Basic AND 64-bit) a try....it's a less intrusive codec replacer utility:

Otherwise, there's Nightmare's Codec Reset Utility, which you can google up....restores codecs to preinstalled Windows ones.

You should post in your own thread with your dxdiag. Often times, the causes of problems are not the same at all, especially for this game.
