EA and Crytek SCREWED me pure and simple

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 7:05 am

I have loved this universe from it's inception, and was one of the very first to pre-order, pre-pay, and reserve the Nano edition of Crysis 2 on the XBox 360 @ gamestop. As I often do with high end or limited quantity purchases, I called to confirm multiple times over the months that indeed my order was reserved and would be waiting for me; game, back pack, case, art book, and Alcatraz figure included, and I was assured each time that it was indeed reserved and would be waiting for me on drop day.
Now, only because I went to inquire about a midnight release did I learn that EA has removed the Nano edition from certain retailers, including gamestop without making any effort to make loyal long standing fans, and PAYING CUSTOMERS aware of this fact.
EA I'm a member of all your little clubs, and buy pretty much every title you release, and you pull this crap on me?! On anyone, it's a travesty; but on someone who personally helps keep you in the black every year. This is disgusting. Where is my nano edition?!?!

dude your anger is aimed to the WRONG people.

EA would LOVE to sell you the item...the manufacturers probably screwed EA

if EA was at fault thn the same would have happened to the collector edition of Dead space and their Plasma Cutter Replica......but it did not because THAT manufacturer (epic weapons) has balls of steel

The fact remains that EA removed gamestop's nano sales privileges AFTER people myself included had already done their due diligence, paid a premium, and made a good faith contractual agreement for purchase of the item. In addition, they did so without informing those who would be affected, and had I not inquired about a midnight release, I wouldn't have even found out about this until I went to pick up my Nano edition. EA put a product on the market, I was one of the first people in the world to reserve said product, and now people who ordered it multiple months AFTER I did, will get it, while I and others will not. That is patently unfair, unjust, unreasonable, and while I appreciate your sentiment, without having actual facts to back it up, and frankly even in the presence of those facts; responsibility and culpability ultimately falls on EA's shoulders. They made no effort to inform me of the change. They continued to sell Nano editions on their site AFTER they removed from other retailers. Had I been given notice of this, I still would have been able to purchase it. Once again, the fault of EA, with a little help from Gamestop.
Ultimately, what needs to happen is gamers must galvanize to form a consumer advocacy group strictly for gamers, as we represent $20 Billion in yearly revenue, yet we have no voice, and studios, publishers, and distributors have no one to hold them accountable.
Ultimately, this situation is evidence that EA is among the many in this industry that have no regard fir their customers, or the loyalty and revenue those customers deliver.

If you can successfully argue it was a contract, you'd probably be entitled to damages from Gamestop. (I'm not sure how US law works).

You have misplaced your anger, what game developer would make an edition which they didn't want to sell?

You have said that it was the GAME RETAILERS who did this, so there you go.

I agree that EA are a bit uncaring, but I think the retailers/manufacturers are mainly at fault. But seriously, I can't believe no one has said "Damn, that svcks man..." Try be a bit sympathetic. Anyway, damn, that svcks man. I felt the same towards Amazon until I found out it wasn't their service, it was their ****, thieving mail carriers. Yes I'm talking about FedEx and UPS. I ordered the limited editions of Crysis, Bad Company 2, AND Fallout 3 GOTY edition, and all THREE times the asses driving it took it for themselves. Tell me I'm being paranoid, but it happened THREE times and each order was month or two apart (Course Crysis was back in 2007). That is why I now physically go to Gamestop to get my games.

But anyway, hope something happens good happens.

No one is implying they don't want to sell it. Anyone making that assertion isn't paying attention. The fact is they did not honor sales of the game made through certain retailers in favor of other retailers including their own on-line store, AFTER those retailers had already sold copies of the Nano edition of the game.
They made no effort to inform those whose purchases were voided that they had done so, and now despite being ONE OF THE FIRST PEOPLE IN THE WORLD TO ORDER THE GAME, It has been taken away from me.
My anger is not misplaced, it is precisely where it belongs.
This was my birthday present, this was something I ordered immediately upon announcement of it's existence, this is something I have been eagerly anticipating for longer than most people knew the game was even coming out, and I've lost out on it through the complete negligence on the part of Electronic Arts to make sure those who purchased the Nano edition through retailers EA later chose to exclude from carrying the edition even after units had been sold by those retailers, were aware of that fact, and given an opportunity to purchase it from them. I've already paid for it, and I'm not getting it, BECAUSE OF EA.
The fact is they didn't need my sale, so my forethought, my diligence, my money meant nothing to them because they a.) They knew anyone who would buy the Nano edition would most certainly settle for less if forced to, and b.) since they were in such "limited supply" they would have no trouble selling them to the people who saddled up to their retail space months after I did.
Thanks to the poster who offered some empathy, but to you psychobabble spewing EA fanboys talking about misplaced anger, something tells me you either got your Nano editions or never intended on getting one to begin with, so you can't possibly know how this feels, or what having that and losing it means to me.
EA screwed me, and that's a fact.

Do you seriously expect EA to monitor every retailer and their avalibility of goods? Maybe Gamestop should take responsibility when they sell wares, they have promised wares they cant supply. EA have nothing to do with this. They just ship games to retailers that order games, they cant keep track of inventory of retailers. serioulsy...

You say yourself, you ordered through Gamestop NOT from EA.
If you take 1 secon to think about it you would realise that EA would love to sell it to as many people as possible, but it is probably some exlusivity. If you want to blame EA, order it directly through EA's site.
And even worse, in the subject text you even claim Crytek is to blame...
If you really want it, order it through some that sell it.
Also it is Gamestop that rushed the info on their site without making sure they had a deal with EA

according to the law a preorder is not a final sale (least not in Massachusetts)

came up severaltimes when the taxes went up and preorders did not honor the initial price

Actually Gamestop should have informed you that it wasn't available any longer and not EA.

I tried to order through EA's site. They're SOLD OUT. They sold out however months AFTER it became unavailable at Gamestop, yet no one had the decency to inform the consumer who prepaid $150 US and change that such a change took place. I have a serious gripe with gamestop as well, and they won't be getting my business ever again. I subscribe to EA and Gamestop's newsletters, and their respective on line communities and at no time did any information regarding the Nano edition being made exclusive to EaStore or Amazon get disseminated.
I van be upset at whomever I feel upset with. That's my rite, my prerogative. I have taken every conceivable step to secure a copy since learning of this, and it is simply no longer available.
