Crysis 2 is almost definite NOT to ship with DX11- IGN

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 8:02 am

Look at this and tell me if it's true.

http://translate.google.fr/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=fr&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http://www.sweclockers.com/nyhet/13594-crysis-2-endast-dx9-dx11-kommer-senare

DirectX 9? Is this a joke? This is like Crysis 0.5, a technological step backwards for the series. Crysis 1 supported DirextX 10.

If you haven't noticed, this bloody thing is 9 years old now. Why the hell would you develop the game on DX9?

Because there are a heck of a lot more people with gaming consoles (which use dx9 by the way) than true gaming computers, it makes it more approachable for a wider variety of people, still i'm ticked off and can't believe what i'm seeing.

yo these **** with their max console signs can go back to black ops they were never pc fans and they need to **** off. Show me proof from a crytek employee of them stating their is no dx11 in the final version for pc. Thats right no proof its a rumor most rumors are wrong anyway

It may be a rumor, but it seems to be consistent with what we are seeing.

If it was just a rumor, crytek would come out and squash it with a quick 1 liner announcement. But rather, by being silent on the topic they are effectively giving credibility to the rumor. Doesnt make sense that if they had dx11, they would not respond to the mass criticism they are seeing. That would be shooting themselves in the foot.

So its pretty obvious that it wont be shipping with dx11.

This is disappointing... I have a $7,000 dollar rig and this comes with dx9? :/

It will be even more expensive after the ATI Radeon HD 6990's come out; I'm buying two of those svckers and running them in CFX.

Maybe only the Demo doesn't support DX11 or something else.

Crytek should be working on this.

As it was said before if crysis 2 was shipping with dx11 crytek would've responded to the criticism.

With all do respect to Crytek but these news are epic failure, why would anyone do that?
Are they trying to make sure that the people that gets the DX11 are the ones that bought game?
Its sounds inconvenient to be honest.

I see precisely why Crytek chose not to support my high end PC hardware but that doesn't mean I have to like the game. If Crytek ignored a section of the gaming community in an attempt to try and make more money how is that supposed to make us like the game any better?

Tacked on DX11 after release = unoptimized DX11.

epic failure

Speaking of Epic I bet you People Can Fly's next title for Epic is another Unreal game that will hit on PC before the Next gen consoles. It will be used to sell the newest version of UDK that was just announced at GDC and is apparently Epics vision of the Next Generation. Obviously later they will port it to console to get a bit more cash.

Does it matter if Crysis 2 doesn't ship with DX11? It will still be one of the best looking titles in history.

You know, this whole thing has been a terrible disappointment for me. First, they release a 360 - exclusive demo, then they release a PC demo where some people can't even log in to play it, and now there are rumors about DX9? I'm not pre ordering this game. I'm going to wait for the full release to clarify these rumors. Until then, I'm not trusting anything unless it's from crytek.

Wow people really up in arms over this. I have already pre ordered mine and even if DX 11 is not at launch I just hoping to see it at some point, I'm still into the story so I have to get it. Hate the fact that it's dumbed down but they are in this to make money. I have spent allot of money on my PC to play this game ( 3 580 sli @ 5760x1080 ) didn't need it, but heck I can still look forward to BF3!
Last thing I want to say is I dont believe Crytek will let this game be a crappy port the DX 9 looks better then any other 9 I've seen, the MP game play is fun even if its not what I'd play. No tanks armor or air means I'll find something else to do so i'm just getting it for the SP.

Who cares. Crysis barely looked better in DX10 than DX9. I doubt this will be much better in DX11. Maybe half the frame rate...but nothing else.

Denial and wishful thinking. That's all I see. Keep your faith guys, really hope Crytek delivers. Me, I'll keep being skeptical. All will be revealed in 17 days.

Nobody has considered that maybe Crytek is under some major pressure with 3 different platform releaes?
EA is probably forcing them to release all at 1 time.
While it's possible they needed more time to complete the final product.

What exactly needs clarifying the fact that nvidia paid crytek 2 million dollars so their launch would coincide with the release of their new GPU unit, and that nvidia's stipulation was that direct x 11 features would be kept under lock and key so nvidia could be the first to show it off with their new GTX 590 which in turn would= more nvidia fan boy panick buying.

i've seen it before and will see it in the years to come, it's called MARKETING STRATEGY

If Crysis 2 does not include tessellation (which is what I suspect is the case) it will be a failed marketing strategy.

Tesselation makes sense in close-ups. If your textures are high res -> Don't need it

Except Tessellation is primarily useful to add geometry that give a 3 dimensional appearance at acute views. There is no point having a high res texture at an acute view it will look crap regardless of the resolution. Parallax occlusion might help quite a bit in some cases. But just high res textures won't do anything at acute views except look like a razor sharp photo of a brick wall stuck to a perfectly flat surface.

cry engine 3 is capable of tesselation just depends if they implemented it or not
