Crysis 2 DRM Gone Down Like A Lead Balloon!

Post » Mon Jan 31, 2011 2:14 am

Well... who didn't see that coming? A DRM which thinks you are trying to install the game on a 2nd computer because you upgraded your graphics card.

Crytek i am not amused.

I have the Steam version of Crysis 2 Deluxe Edition so why in the hell can't you guys just use Steam Guard?? It prevents the game from being played by anyone who doesn't own the Steam account.

I DO NOT want to lose an authorisation liscence every time upgrade a piece of hardware!! This is idiocy at its best. Especially when Steam has a better solution that WORKS!

MAXIMUM FAIL

Well, i upgrade hardware around once every 6 months. Sometimes hard disks die too. When all my liscences are used up i guess i'll have no other choice but to crack the game i paid for. What a crock o' ****

On the subject of DRM, whats the deal with it? Can it only be installed so many times? It also appears it doesn't need the CD once installed - is that correct?

OP, go to: Start Menu > Games > Crysis 2. Highlight the C2 shortcut, right-click and click 'Deauthorize this machine'. Done! As far as I know with this DRM you can authorize and deauthorize your PC at any time, but with one serial number you can play simultaneously only on 5 PCs.

I'm starting to wonder if Crytek and/or EA even read these forums.

It's not just when you uninstall/install new hardware it's even when you simply overclock your current hardware.

I was messing with my CPU to get some extra out of it and as soon as i started the game i had to authorise it again (thought it was a bug - there is a lot after all), after changing my CPU i decided to change my ram timings and lo and behold i had to authorise again!.

I swear, crytek says piracy is killing PC gaming but IMO it's the DRM that's promoting piracy.

Crytek knows they screwed PC gamers. They are not going to look at these forums. They obviously dont care anymore.

I sort of understand why you might use DRM if it were free. But the thing is it isn't free, it eats into the profits. Given that it doesn't even work and puts some customers off I bet it costs more money than it saves.

And whats wrong with using Steam as DRM? Most people don't even mind that and it is a deterrent for alot of people that have genuine steam accounts.

Er... this is weird. I just followed ur instructions and found out there is no Crysis 2 in my list of games. I also just checked Programs and Features and Crysis 2 is NOT in the list. What the hell?? I know my version of Crysis 2 is the Steam version but it should still be in the Programs and Features list of installed programs right??

I have Assassin's Creed Brotherhood Steam version installed and that IS in Programs and Features list. Why is Crysis 2 not there? The only place i can find it is in my steam library and in steamapps folder. Is something wrong here?

I have an EADM version, but I don't think it has major differences. That's what you can do: go to the C2 folder (something like Steam\steamapps\common\crysis 2\bin32), and there should be the activation.exe file. Use this file to authorize/deauthorize your game.

Simply overclocking the video card (adjusting clock speeds) doesn't use an authorisation, it did it for me when i changed the CPU multipliers and then again when i did the ram timings/ratios, i lost 2 authorisations from this.

Quite frankly it's not right that i should loose these, this is the problem with this type of DRM, legitimate customers loose out while pirates play away with no worries.

It's good to know i can just de-auth before doing overclocking like this BUT i shouldn't have to.
