Where did parallax mapping go?

I understand why you've cut the texture resolution down to fit consoles, but where is parallax mapping for a PC version? Parallax mapping (preferably the occlusion version) makes huge visual difference. Why is it not available in the game?

I am not sure but I think POM can work on consolles too and It seems to me that some do have pom lik eunderwater texture of stones and another one I saw that had like water streams in the mud ... may be I am wrong?

BTW I checked this in the Consolle version ...

BASICALLY they released an uncomplete game in order to make release dates and hopefully hit their sales quotas before people stop buying the game.

They've probably removed PM/POM for the performance, but it should've been left up to PC players to use it or not. Or CryTek didn't even make displacement maps?

Simple...
Firstly..... no POM since consoles couldnt handle it with target framerate.
Secondly .... Crytek probably decided its not worth the extra dev cost (staff time and labour costs) to make the extra feature for PC gamers which they probably believe will be the least platform sales.

I base this on nothing. Just like the information Crytek has been so forthcoming with.. nothing.

The engine can obviously do much more than is shown in Crysis 2. Today PCs can do more than is possible in Crysis 2. Too bad CryTek doesn't find it worth offering more capable graphics in Crysis 2. Parallax Mapping was even possible in Crysis 1.

This is a bit of a kick in the teeth for anyone like myself who likes to run with the latest tech and would expect a game with the Crysis label to fully support the latest graphics options. Not that these kinds of mapping are even new.
Bring on the death of current gen consoles already.

If there will be a dx10 and dx11 patch, the parallax occlusion mapping will be as a dx10 feature just like in the first crysis :)

edit : spelling

This is taken straight from the Cryengine 3 features brochure:

CryENGINE? 3 includes parallax occlusion mapping for all supported platforms. This gives a sense
of depth to a surface texture applied to a polygon and achieves realistic levels of detail – such as on
the relief surface structure of a brick wall or a cobblestone street – without needing hi-poly models.

So why does it look flat, low res and pixelated when compared to polybump 2 of Cryengine 2?

I'm sure this engine is capable of ridiculous things on PC's. Not that we'll see it.

Multi-platform , bro :)
