Play Crysis 2 with Console settings

Post » Mon Jan 31, 2011 8:21 am

This is a funny little thing I found -

go to your Crysis 2 installation folder, and make a file called "autoexec.cfg"

Example:
Code:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\Crytek\Crysis 2\autoexec.cfg

In that file, type in:

Code:
exec console
exec x360

replace "x360" with "ps3" if you want to play with PS3 settings.

If you want to see how fast the game runs, then add the extra lines to disable VSync and FPS-cap:

Code:
exec console
exec x360

r_vsync = 0
sys_maxFPS = 0

Now try playing - your FPS should be very high now :)

uh, my fps is already WAAAY too high, that's the problem. This game was supposed to crash our rigs, make us go out and buy the best crossfire setup we could find, overclock our multicores, force us to drop the cash on a good water cooling system.... at least that's what I thought it was gonna be. I have games that are old as **** that strain my pc more than this.

They look the same to me, but runs much faster :)

With the Xbox 360 config, I'm getting 200 fps max, 150 fps average, and 100 as lowest during intense action with a HD5850.

Shut the **** up asshole. People biched and biched that Crysis 1 couldn't be ran on their machines. In addition, Crysis 1 didn't have huge sales because of this AND because of piracy. So with pissed off fans and loss of sales, it only makes sense to have Crysis 2 look just as good as Crysis BUT to run much MUCH better. Yet **** like you still aren't satisfied.

FYI, not everyone, or possibly in YOUR case, everyone's "parents," are made of money. I have a 6970 that I paid good money for and bich, I don't want ANY titles on the market trying to bring it down to its knees. Every game I run is smooth when maxed out, and if you have old as **** games running bad on your PC, then that just means their optimization svckS. And optimization is a HUGE deal for PC gaming. Get lost you ****.

True i could play crysis after 2 years, when it was released i couldn't play it because the game was only made for high end pc's.

But what i dont understand is that you can not fully customize the graphics........... heck even games who are 10 years old can do that.

I'm sure they will patch this, well, I hope they do. Not sure why they only allowed users to select inbuilt presets. They must have there reasons.

WTF are you talking about. THE ONLY reason the first one sold so well was because of the visuals and that it was a good game to stress cards. The only reason it really took off about 2 years down the line was because more people had higher end cards and wanted to stress those out. Crysis 1 story is utter garbage, characters are not even remotely believable or likable. Other than the visuals Crysis 1 was ****. If the visuals did not look as good the game would not have sold nearly as much.

i dont give a rats ass that you paid good money for a 6970 (you got ripped off BTW) and dont want to stress your card. IF that is your excuse GTFO the crysis forums!

Honestly I agree with you to a certain extent, Crysis 1 was way too demanding(and unoptimised) considering the hardware available in 2007. You have to understand why some people are disappointed with the graphics in Crysis 2 though. I love what Crytek have done with the gameplay, but they missed the bar they set with Crysis 1 as far as graphics are concerned. They are still beautiful compared to almost everything else out there, but don't have the same jaw-dropping wow effect the first game had. One of the biggest advantages of the PC as a platform is scalability. Would it be such a terrible thing to have options available that are for high end setups? I'm not talking to the Crysis 1 extent that no one can run it, but as it is now even my midrange card is running the game smooth as butter. Like you said, you paid good money for that 6970. Don't you want to see your investment put to good use while still getting good framerates?

Allow me to dissect the many things wrong with your logic. First off, what people biched about the game not being able to run on their rig? Why is that even something to bich about? Because you have to go spend more money on new pc parts? I thought upgrading your computer was supposed to be a good thing that you WANTED to and looked forward to doing. Completely setting that aside, if it didn't run on majority of the setups out there, that means that it was ahead of its time. Isn't that what you want? The latest and greatest? I mean that's what crytek has built their name upon. Being the most top of the line out there. PC Gamer only recently stopped using Crysis as its global benchmark to inform consumers of GPU's performance, and that's just one example, **** everybody did for YEARS after the game came out. Because it was just that good. And you say they lost sales due to this? Surely upon release this is true, but look at the big picture, they surely didn't have any problem selling copies since then. People still buy the game for gods sakes. My comment about other games straining my comp was what is known as SARCASM, google it idiot. Nary a game causes my computer to even cough, the point I was trying to make is that I thought this one would (or might). Are you unaware that people sometimes exaggerate for effect? Look, i've spent enourmous amounts of hard earned money on my PC too, but that's not the point, the game doesn't even UTILIZE current technology. Sure it might further down the road, but being too good too run on anyone's computers is one thing, not being good enough to really make use of anyone's computers is another. I will compromise and say that a healthy medium should have been found. Fair enough? Optimization IS a huge deal for PC gaming, that's why I'm wondering why I don't have to "optimize" at all to get the most out of this game. Most people probably won't.

You're a **** retard. You show it in 100% of your posts.

I paid good money for my old computer which i purchased 5 years ago. Should i put my foot down and say "Devs, dont make ANY games bring my card to its knees. I paid GOOD MONEY for this geforce 4 and i want every game to run smooth!" Because thats exactly what you just said. You dont want devs to make advances in visuals and graphics? LOL.

**** retard i swear.

if you want to disable the fps cap, add

Code:
r_VSync = 0
sys_MaxFPS = 0

to your "autoexec.cfg"

From a game dev perspective, a game needs to be properly optimized to look good, but it's far easier to use a more powerful hardware to compensate for lack of development skills, manpower or budget; it's freaking lazy or it's just life. Still, an optimized game can look way better and the drivers you guys are downloading are also proof of that.

Who knows how good Crysis 1 & 2 could look and run at their full potential.

No. I say you if want play on true consoles setting you need write fps limit 30.

+ Thats good for old video-chipsets.

That real xbox360 settings:

r_multithreaded=2
e_LodRatio=5
e_CoverageBufferResolution=128
e_lodmin = 0

e_streamcgfpoolsize = 24
r_TexturesStreamPoolSize = 90

s_VariationLimiter = 0.3
s_Obstruction = 1
s_ObstructionAccuracy = 1
s_ObstructionUpdate = 0.5
s_SoundMoodsDSP=1
s_ReverbType=2

p_num_threads=2
d3d9_pip_buff_size = 24

g_breakage_mem_limit = 5000

r_DeferredShadingSortLights=0

r_VSync = 2
sys_maxfps = 30

d3d9_rb_verts=49152
d3d9_rb_Tris=131072

e_particlesThread=4
sys_streaming_cpu=1
sys_physics_CPU=5

e_CharLodMin = 1
e_gi=0

You don't need to put all that in.

Code:
exec console
exec x360

is enough. That loads all the settings for XBOX 360.

I just added instructions to remove the FPS cap as it is hard to play with only 30 fps.
