CPU bottleneck?

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 3:21 am

so, I have a core 2 duo and 4770 right now and was thinking about upgrading to a 6850 before I bougt crysis 2. My question is, will my dual core @3.7ghz bottleneck my card a lot? Should I not consider getting a new card before I upgrade my CPU? Or should my 4770 suit me just fine?

Yeah get an Athlon II X4 or a Phenom II X4 if you can and OC it like crazy.

Can I have the 4770? I'm on a **** GT 240 right now.

I would except my motherboard does not support amd processors only intel dual and quad core cpu's. And i already have a home for it if I get a new card.

Hese got a Core 2 Duo wich is a Intel, Socket 775... so if your recomend and AMD he needs a whole new Motherboard and a fresh install of his O.S.

So he do a whole lot better looking at what the best Quad Core is his current Motherboard suports.
Than wen the DX11 patch comes out you can look at a HD6850 or something :)

I currently have a dual core running at 3.7ghz, 4gb ddr2 @1066mhz and a 4770. Just to clear things up. Also, I'm going to eventually start over and just build a whole new rig. So, this will be my last upgrade before I build an entirely new rig.

Overclocked Intel Core Duo? Is the Memory overclocked also?
Wich one is it exactly? and what motherboard exactly? And the HD4770, is it a 512MB or a 1GB version?
If we know all that than maybe someone can give you some solid advice.

It is an over clocked intel core 2 duo. Don't know the type of motherboard. The ram IS over clocked from 800 MHz and the 4770 is the 512mb version. Hope that answered all of your questions.

Running this game on a six core AMD processor and noticed all six cores lighting up like christmas trees. What a waste, considering the low amount of real physics in this game. Remember Crysis 1 where you could tear down entire houses and shacks?

Oh, and dont overclock unless you really have to, i dont have anything overclocked here and it runs fine.

LOL, yeah Phisics in Crysis 2 is a big failure, at one level theres a hal with pillars ans a curtain in between 2 of them, its just like a solid wall, you cant walk trough it, doesnt move no matter wat, and is fully bullet proof :P
The Cutian is complety unneeded to be there, even for decoration it could have been left out, it would only have been usefull if it would have interacted with A.I., Bullets etc. and the player walking trough it. but nothing, its just stupid.

LoL @ Don't overclock.
I have E8400... if i wouldn't OC it Crysis 2 would run like ****. Fortunately OCed mine from 3.0 to 4.2.
If you have CPU with DECENT amount of CACHE (4MB+) you can get great results from OCing it...

Really? Crysis 2 is much easier to run than Crysis 1 or Warhead, its a Console Port... take a really close look, not at the static objects and lighting, but at the rest of it.

I know that, but im saying dont overclock unless you need to. If the toughest game your playing runs fine To You, Dont Overclock, it only burns out your hardware sooner.
If you cant upgrade the system any further and things dont run smooth than go ahead and overclock it as far as you can safely take it.
Thats just my advice.

I dont overclock, if things dont run as they should i start upgrading or replacing.
