Not "the" big difference..

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 6:56 am

At first: i dont want to start a troll or something.
I writing this @ a neutral perspective.

Ive seen almost every video and everything related to Crysis 2 on the net.
I watched and played all 3 versions of Crysis 2. ( of course the demo..and high res screenshots)
You know what? The Pc version isnt far superior as Nathan and Cevat have told in the past.
It has a higher resolution and uses more AA than the console versions.. but the texture differences are really small and even the lighting isnt that overwhelmingly better. Yeah i know.. Dx11/10 patches .. bla bla..
but why the low textureresolution even on Dx9? Dx9 doesnt limit the texturebuffer or the LOD.
I wouldnt call it "lies" but Nathan and Cevat extremely exaggerated when they said the PC version will look massively better. Maybe Microsoft and Sony didnt wanted it to be way better... or maybe there wasnt enough time to make the Pc version look outstanding. My hope is that Crysis 2 will be as modable as Crysis 1 so" we" will get the visually best experience our machines could offer.

All in all the goal for Crysis 2 was to: "bring the Crysis experience to consoles.."N. Camarillo.. and not to surpass Crysis 1 in grfx.

Yeah.
Nathan said, the CryEngine3 would scale to your hardware, but .. eeh.. it just doesn't look so.
Crytek, oh Crytek. 4 years ago you were THE PC game studio.. now you're just average, aren't you? :(

It scales I've seen people get nearly 300 fps. Which when you think about it actually is 10 times better than a console so actually when AMD said in that article about Direct X that the API prevents PC games being 10 x better than console they were wrong, and the proof is already here.

But in practical terms the monitor prevents it scaling because it can't display anywhere near 300fps.

It's more then 10 times bro, MUCH more. Put the PC version of crysis 2 on consoles at even 720p resolution and watch them go down in flames, struggling to get over 10 fps.

Then again, running at 300 fps is 240 fps that could've been extra fidelity such as physics.

You said nearly

Average = 30 FPS

Nearly 300 FPS = <299

30x10=/=299

I dont think that buying gtx580 or anything as expensive is worth this "huge" difference in visuals

Could it be that you actually need to restart the game for all settings to change. Like in the 1st one where you had to restart to change the geometry settings.

PS: Are those grey blobs in the pics from Crysis 2 supposed to be sandbags or are they really what they look like... oddly shaped concrete blocks?

Image

Because these Crysis 1 sandbags look better from 6 inches away than those do from 50 yards. These are the freaking champagne of CG sandbags and those are just grey blocks.

Of course they are. Like I already said in another thread , blaming directx for weaker performance is a joke;) The api makes just few calls to access the big horsepower-stuff, so its inpact is insignificant. In addition much stuff is designed to be hardware-accelerated so it is the fastest thing to safely adress it through directx anyway.

Also pc is not a fixed hardware, removing api reminds me of the old crappy dos-times. What a glory idea!

Someone lied to you. High on PC is NOT the same as console settings. Consoles have different settings, that are somewhat a mixture between low and medium in crysis 1 (cause settings in crysis 2 are more or less the same), with some very low and some high. You could look at console versions as a "high" PC setting BUT with much lower draw distance, texture quality and shadows. And ofc running at a resolution that pc's got past since a decade or so...
