On that note, Bards at the Bar.

As long as it isn't even close to like it was in Runescape.

More stuff at bars would be nice. More than bards...like games and stuff.

I want to be able to drink till i pass out and wake up at a later time, would be cool if NPC characters also drank and passed out like true alcoholics.

Oh and Bards must drink while playing, Its the Skyrim way.

The taverns should definitely be a fun place in Skyrim, since bars fit well with the cold nordic setting.

Hopefully the bards will be Mariachi bands as it would fit the theme of the game perfectly.

I've been calling for this in various threads since back around December, and my view is still "Hell yeah, do this!"

Not only bards in the taverns, but nobles having "chamber musicians" as well, with themed music for each. Maybe various major points in the main quest causing bards and minstrels to start singing songs of your heroic (or vile, evil) deeds.

I'd certainly like the bars to be more atmospheric and lively.
in oblivion it always just seemed to be 2 or 3 people standing around looking miserable

I remember a morrowind mod that added bar fights and a rowdy atmosphere and stuff, cant remember what it was called though or if it modded every bar...

I can neither confirm nor deny that I have indeed also proposed wandering minstrels who might accompany you, whether you want them to or not, and sing of exploits you might not want repeated. :whistling:

"Dovakhiin bravely ran away
When dragons reared their ugly heads
He bravely turned his tail and fled..."

I'd like pub games, brawls, drinking contests, contests of riddles and music in Skyrim's taverns.

I'm hoping they follow through when they say taverns will take an important role in Skyrim. In its cold climate, I want civilians to gather in great numbers in their local taverns, telling tales of there adventures over bottles of mead and ale, whilst a bard entertains guests in return for their change. Wandering civilians beg adventurers to solve there problems - in exchange for gold which will most likely be fed back into the tavern, on alcohol or food, a game of poker, blackjack - or in those shadier areas of Skyrim, underground fighting and prostitution.

Remember games like Mechwarrior, Pirates!, and Freelancer where you had to go to the bar to get information? It seems to me the TES games can take this kind of mechanic and REALLY do it right.

Lets say you have been given a quest by some local bureaucrat to stop some bandit activity in the area. Nobody knows where the bandits are hiding, but they're making everyone's life miserable. But really, someone has to know something right? Bandits need food and supplies don't they? So now you have 3 options:
1) Roam the countryside and hope to stumble on their cave by accident
2) Use your high SPEECH-CRAFT skill to glean valuable hints from the locals at the bar.
3) Use your high MERCANTILE skill to purchase the information since you don't have the "gift of gab"

Via a combination of speech-craft, mercantile, and actually talking to people (likely at the bar) you EARN the infamous Quest Marker/Guide from Oblivion.

What say you?

I really like the sound of this sort of thing. Not only is it a nice compromise betweem "Find everything yourself" and "Follow the map marker" but it also means there would be multiple ways of gaining information and I think having multiple paths through a quest makes it more enjoyable to replay.
