Crytek – How about some POSITIVE Feedback for a change?

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:13 am

I have been on the “WTF Crytek” side of the fence for the sold-out/dumbed down controls we have for this version of Crysis. I am not happy that I cannot have DX 11, AA or other advanced controls and that grenades are a weapons select and other things that made Crysis and Crysis Warhead so awesome – BUT, have you played the campaign?

I have waited since the last two games to see what Crytek had in store and I have to say, putting aside the complaints for a moment – WHAT A FREAKING AWESOME AND LONG CAMPAIGN!

Being a software engineer myself, I understand the blood, sweat and tears that goes behind the creation of a product, though I am far from a game developer (I do business applications), I am sure the efforts are in many ways similar. I am sure the heart and minds of the people behind the coding want to do nothing but put forth an awesome product that they themselves can be proud of saying “Yeah I helped make that” and say it with pride. So when you get nothing but kiddos and squeaky wheels biching and moaning about this or that, it takes those years of work, all that pride and stifles the end result in many ways. It takes that level of pride in the game and drops it a few notches – so with that in mind, I would like to extend my personal thanks for such a wonderful campaign.

THANK YOU CRYTEK

Sure, I wanted this or that to be present on release day. I want my grenades NOT to be weapons select. I dropped over $3,500 on PC upgrade to be able to play DX11 and OWN Crysis 2 like the original Crysis OWNED my PC at that time, and the list goes on. Life isn’t always what you want or anticipate it to be in so many ways. But when you step back and see it for what it is, not what you expect - but what it is - then you can find the joy in the game. That is the point of it all – it is a game. It is a way to have some fun, enjoy a storyline/production and take your mind out of the moment and into the game – for that, Crytek did well. I was transported into NY with the nanosuit and had one hell of a time blasting away at the Cell and the Squids.

The story did have its holes. Did anyone miss the tie in from the island to NY? How did we get from there to here? I thought the Aliens needed to have a frozen central section? Was it not ICE that was so devastating to the troops and jungles in the last two games? Uhh, did I miss the ice in this release? Was it not ice the aliens in Crysis and Warhead was firing at us? Where did the swarm come from? That wasn’t part of the last games. The list goes on. If you played the first two and really got into the story – you know what I am asking. If not, go back and BUY a copy of them both (like I did) and play the campaigns.

I expected this to be a full “let’s answer your nagging questions from Crysis/Warhead” – it is not. It leaves you with many questions and still yet gives you more. In the end though, I have to say this is a Campaign I will attack in multiple ways many times through.

THANK YOU CRYTEK for giving me a game I can play for hours many times through. Though I used to like online gaming, there is always going to be that idiot that makes/uses hacks for a couple months of false pride that ruins the games for everyone else that plays it for what it is without aid. SO I like to play campaigns, it is me vs the AI and no worries if the other guy is cheating and not using the tools as they were given to them. Because of that, my value comes in a well written/produced Campaign and for that I have to say this was one very good campaign. Not for it being the next in a series (because it did not tie in well together), nor not for it being once a PC bad ass FPS game (because it is an obvious port, limited for consoles), but for giving me a game that is playable for what it is, for what it is about and for what I spent the last 3 days going through – for that I have to thank Crytek for the many years they have spent to make this possible. Thank you all for your hard work on such a beautiful game.

THANK YOU CRYTEK

cool story bro.

but yes, they deserve a pat on the back. the story is Good, the graphics are excellent and the single player is rich in content and long...

BUT!! i can't play the goddamn multiplayer. Servers never responds and i keep getting kicked out of any games i am "lucky" enough to join within 10 seconds.

So yes, thanks for the single player crytek, i enjoyed it alot and i will remember it, now get the damn multiplayer working....

I will concede they worked hard on this game,, that it was put together for mutli port so quickly is an achievement to be sure. The story gets interesting near the end and there are some great moments from level to level that i personally enjoyed.
I can say the same about a lot of other games this year for multiport.
Does crysis 2 stand head and shoulders above the rest ? not really , but its definately poking them in the eyes.

They have done some things well. I am REALLY peeved that there is no "save" feature of any kind except a stupid "checkpoint" system. To me that takes 1 point away immediately from the game. Also, the visuals are awesome. Just like the first Crysis and Warhead, the effects and graphics are some of the best I have ever seen. The game feels more like F.E.A.R. than Crysis though.

-It's not sold out dumbed down controls, it's streamline. Feels like a human behind the suit, and TBH, it makes me very VERY excited and I utilize the nanosuit 2 way more than I ever have the nanosuit 1 (which i just stuck to armor mode and occasionally switched modes sometimes. Usually to cloak but not really that much).

-DX11 is coming.

-Advance options are coming. The official ones at least. There's a modder who already has custom advanced options, so technically they are released, but I'm waiting for the official ones.

-Sandbox Editor 3 is coming.

-Most problems/missing things in the game is simply because Crytek needs to finish Crysis 2 through patches and updates. This is because EA didn't give them enough time. This is the same case as with Treyarch on world at war with Activision (do keep in mind tho, I hate call of duty). WaW was TERRIBLE at first, but after all the patches, mod tools, and etc. it became AMAZING.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With all THAT aside, I'm glad I see someone who at least APPRECIATES the best part of this game, being the epic campaign.

I WOULD appreciate the campaign, if it wasn't BROKEN. Nano catalyst resets whenever you exit the game. Otherwise, I would agree with you. But the campaign is actually unplayable.

Perfect opportunity if you ask me for Crytek to make a spinoff much like Crysis Warhead that has you playing as prophet/psycho/nomad whatever to explain what happens after Phrophet goes back to the sphere and what happens to raptor team at the Lingshan Islands. I would love a game that bridged the gap between Crysis 1 and 2 in a coherent fashion.

Agreed!

IDK about those who could not play the game for whatever reasons they encountered. That is the downside to developing a game not knowing EVERYTHING that someone has loaded (be it 100% or not), and trying to make a game that will work on everyone's configuration - its a battle all developers face and because this game may not have worked on that specific computer, the user is thinking the entire game is whacked - wake up people, its technology. You are probably the same haters posting in other forums about this or that program that does not work on YOUR rig - but we find it does on 90% of everyone else's. Is that the developers fault? no - its technology. Will they work hard to make sure YOU get to play it on yours - yeah, its a given, wait for the info to come in and let them patch the game - same thing that happens on MOST releases. The initial release has bugs and then the patches come. Its the normal cycle - deal with it.

Personally I loved this campaign for what it was. There were some parts that the visuals were simply amazing, even in pre-DX11 state, OMG they did great.

For one who could run the entire campaign without issue and in full eye candy glory - thanks again Crytek for your hard work. The campaign worked great for me and I appreciated the mental break and the hours of enjoyment it gave me the first time through. I am sure once the patches come it will be like a new game again and again we will have to play the campaign through a few more times.

Thanks Crytek

"They have 16 ms or more to have fun with pc hardware... -CRYTEK_TIAGO" before DX11 will be released tomorrow. I'm guessing... ms = more stuffs or milestones.

I guess you should be happy...

Im on the Crytek's side, supporting them.

The only C2 problems its the MP, but it will be solved in some weeks or days. A patch with DX11 and Advanced Graphics Settings will be released tomorrow.

If crysis 2 could be delayed like 4-6 months and devs would only work on PC title, it would be awesome masterpiece.

tbh I couldnt care less about dx11.. yes it would be nice but I'm true MP gamer and.. yeah, just dont care.
this game could be so much!!! It would be next big hit on esports because the gameplay is just freaking awesome.

it's like combination of quake and counterstrike - I just love it.

it's sad that EA and crytek doesnt realise that if they make sometinh good and polished ex. "starcraft 2" then in a long run it would make them tons of more money than at the moment.

Things that the first game where renound for are completely missing in this game and that is more than enough reason for me to be highly disappointed in the game. When one buys a sequel you expect more of what you got in the first not for them to go in a completely different direction for money.

Crytec intentionally lied about this game and its direction and there for If I patted them on the back for their effort in producing it I would be in support of a liar, something I'm not willing to do.

I completely agree that, campaign wise, Crytek delivered an awesome game. It is extremely enjoyable and fun to play, not to mention that when compared to other major FPS games the campaign is very long.

HOWEVER. And that's a big however. There is just so much I miss from the first 2 games. For instance, boss fights. Sure, the pinger has some advanced AI that tries to flush you out, but it does not compare to a good hunter battle, there just isn't the same epic feeling when it goes down. And I miss an epic final battle. *SPOILERS* I was extremely thrilled when the entire central park rose from the ground, and then equally extremely disappointed when it turned out that thing wasn't a boss, but instead we got to fight a bunch of cloaking ceph.

Another thing I disliked where the level transitions. They just skipped so freaking much, story wise, and just dumped you in another part of town for your next mission. It didn't feel like they where connected at all. I mean, you weren't even airlifted or something, you just supposedly walked across half Manhattan.

Also the plot holes... they're just so big...... oh my god.....

Although, I'd like to end on a positive note. Because, despite all it's flaws and mistakes, Crysis 2 is still an extremely fun game. And it can certainly stand proud right next to the big FPS titles. And for that, you have my respect Crytek.

Yeah, but wasn't that what Crysis 2 was supposed to accomplish?
