Almost certainly.

Was that a surprise? really?

Console players have long since accepted that p2p networking is 'just fine', so that's all they'll end up getting :/

I agree with the above post. If you wanted dedicated servers you should taken a stand against microsoft in the first place.

Why would you want a Dedicated server for the Xbox 360/PS3, it's not like the PC where you can join servers, and games, 360/PS3 has Custom games, and Match Making. Custom Games are Per to Per, and Match Making is Hoper Servers, who "leach" off of the play with the highest Ping to run it.

Actually, what you said makes no sense whatsoever. I will explain what we are trying to say.

Okay. The above post is to be understood while taking into account the common knowledge that consoles are not as technically or creatively powerful. Consoles have the advantage of being easier and cheaper, but in the end you get what you pay for.

The loss of high-end features, scalability and customization (REAL customization, not the illusion of customization) is the price to pay. This includes dedicated servers, as to give people dedicated servers is to give people control over their own system, and that's a big no-no for large companies.

Lol, dedicated servers for a console game? You guys long ago indirectly told companies that it was "okay" for P2P networking and that is not likely to change for a long time to come.

PC FPS Gamers have always had the luxury of dedicated servers and when a company like Infinity Ward tries to change that model, they get the crap beat out of them with horrific sales and rampant pirating on the PC. When you demand more from the start its much easier to keep those luxuries than allowing companies to walk over you first and then ask nicely later.

Same deal with mod tools. PC practically demands mod tools (games that don't have it die out much quicker.. BC2 already lost a ton of it's community because of it while BF2 and CSS have been strong for almost a decade and still going) and consolers are still under the "ask nicely later" scheme since they never demanded that from the beginning.

Honestly it's never that big of a problem. Bungie has managed to create a system that's incredible for Halo multiplayer. The connection is always good and the host connection never switches unless the host quits the game. Not all games have mastered it though and I hope Crytek can pull it off.

Apparently Gears of War 3 will have dedicated servers & seamless host migration with no breaks in gameplay. Would be interesting to see how it will work.

Indeed it is. People don't seem to understand that some things simply aren't needed on one platform as opposed to another.

Why would a dedicated server need host migration?

In case one day the server decides it no longer wants to host games and instead host web applications. DUH!!

P.S. I was wondering the same thing :p.

Servers on consoles is solely a choice of the developer. I don't understand why people are pointing fingers at microsoft. It's just a matter of the developer/publisher wanting to shovel out the money for servers or not.

That said, the quality of the connection on P2P is heavily dependent on how competent the netcode programmers are, and to a point just how the game plays. If the netcode is good, the connections will be just as good, if not better than servers. Server's also have the issue of longevity, and just their static nature can create an issue. If you have a bad connection to a dedicated server, you will lag while playing the game. Forever. And you will never have a good match. With a good netcode, 95% of matches play fine, and fixing the lag is as easy as finding a new game.

Killzone 3 has dedicated servers (AFAIK), and although some people were complaining of the associated connection issues mentioned, I've had some of the best connections ever since I started playing online. Black Ops however is incredibly temperamental for me, and I'm dreading the P2P connections when Crysis 2 releases.

This is sad news I thought Crytek would give dedicated servers to consoles and not just only PC. There are a few games that support dedicated servers for consoles like KS2 and 3, Battlefield BC and a few others. This is a great benefit because P2P can be just plain awful depending on the host and a lot of the time the system choses a host that has 512k or less of upload and causes a lot of lagg for the rest of the players and not to mention the host migration gets frustrating.

PC players please understand us and why don't I get a PC? well I had a nice rig a long time ago (6 or 7 years ago) but got to addicted to a few FPS and then WoW, now I have a kid and a good rig costs a good chunk of money that some of us can't afford. I sold my xbox and only consoles I have left is my ps3 and iPhone (if it can be called that). This is the main reason some players don't have a PC and I do miss using my mouse and keyboard for playing.

They at least supported Battlefield Bad Company 2 with dedicated servers. Unfortunely the servers are laggy as hell. Or the game has just one of the worst hit registerations ever.

I disagree. I am a mostly console gamer and all I want is dedicated servers. I don't really give two **** about higher res games or nothing. Sure it's a bonus for higher res, but hey... Graphics don't make the game :P

One day the dev's will just tell it like it is "Sure I'll give you a higher resolution.... at 20fps, or we just cut down the polygons by 30% instead. Your choice".

Come to think of it maybe they need advanced settings on console.

I'm sorry but your messed in the head. I am a huge fan of Halo, constantly play it. I believe its a shame that BUNGIE doesn't have a dedicated server (seeing as the numbers of Halo players is insanely high). Now it was rumored that Halo 2 was on the dedicated server. Sure seemed that way too. Not as much laggy matches, no in game glitches and what not. As soon as Halo 3 came out, all hell broke loose and halo went down the drain (no longer on this rumored server).

That said, I'm also a big fan of Crysis. Love the game, PC all the way for any gaming. This whole Crysis 2 **** is a slap in the nuts for the PC enthusiasts. Crytek really screwed this one up. Cut all graphics and gameplay and really screwed up the Multiplayer. Although I am curious on if any PC players bought the game yet, and if so, what have you? I know the graphics is going to svck, but what about the rest?

Anyway, Halo game play svcks because of no dedicated, and yes its a shame for councels not to have this, but agree with other statements, buy a PC !
