Bad framerate on ps3 !!!!

Post » Thu Jun 02, 2011 11:27 pm

From IGN review:

The PS3 version of Crysis 2 has particular idiosyncracies. After playing both console versions, and playing through the same set of levels multiple times on both consoles, it became clear to a number of editors at IGN that the PS3 version is lacking somewhat in comparison to the 360 version of the game. The game still looks great on PS3, but the framerate is less consistent, the resolution is lower (in the neighborhood of 10% lower than the Xbox 360 release), and certain graphical effects and some lighting appear dialed back. In layman's terms, there are more jagged edges in the PS3 version of the game, and things get choppy more often than its 360 counterpart, which hurts controller response. The 360 is not immune to this, it just doesn't happen as often.

And from eurogamer:

[Editor's note: Digital Foundry reports that frame rate takes a hit on the console versions of Crysis 2, so PC is the version to go for if you have a capable machine. Look out for a Face-Off soon. However, we reviewed from the 360 version and were plenty impressed regardless.]

Console hardwares are too old for this.
Let's be optimistic that Crysis 2 even released for consoles.

Seeing as you haven't offered your opinion, which would ultimately be based upon your copy of the game in your PS3, I'm gonna go ahead and say STFU and GTFO until you actually buy the game

The console hardware is actually pretty decent. You have to remember that console hardware and PC hardware are fairly different in how they act. The console is obviously optimized for games. So saying that the hardware is too old really isn't the most accurate thing.

@MMAMickey :

I finished the SP on x360 ;)
And there are plenty of framerate drops when there is a lot happening on screen.... +glitches, bugs and poor ai

But that ps3 is worse than x360 is just bad :( This confirms that **** don't give a f**** about ps3

Wait for Digital Foundry Face-off this week for facts.....

I understand that fact. But the crysis complexity is more than that of a "optimized for games" can handle flawlessly. It is good to go but not perfectly smooth.
That was the reason why Crysis 1 cannot be release on console. The developer said that PS3 was not powerful enough at that time.
This time around, Crysis 2 was dumped down from Crysis 1 with smaller maps, lower detail, number of models on screen, and shorter view distance in order to make it run on 360 and PS3.

Edit:
For easy example, Crysis 1 need at least 3-4GB system RAM in order to play smoothly without small lock up at some point (tested).
While PS3 have only 256MB RAM. (according to this spec http://playstation.about.com/od/ps3/a/PS3SpecsDetails_3.htm)
How can we expect a perfect performance.

From german eurogamer.de review:

Detailed textures, effects send and a lot of details to make, especially on the Xbox first-class figure. Alone on the PS3 are the ones making frame-rate dips for annoying slowdowns. Our colleague from DigitalFoundry came in a few moments just at 15 frames per second. Too little to even begin to go through as a liquid. Disastrous for a shooter.

15 frames per second
15 frames per second

Dude you are playing at 26fps we are playing at 90 with a much higher resolution. Don't you think that pretty much invalidates your argument.

Yeah mate but thats between your CPU and GPU. The 256 xdr or whatever the hell that is will be on your GPU or else it's wasted. We have had DDR5 on our GPU's for ages now.

EG my rig

4GB DDR3
My GPU has it's own memory it's something like 1.6 or 1.7GB of DDR5 (don't take a genius to figure out DDR5 is better than DDR3 as well and almost certainly better than xdr).

Well, this is disappointing.

Guess I'll just stick to my EA boycott, which is too bad, as this was going to be the first EA game I would have bought new since...

2003. Oy.

Just wait for a pricedrop, then buy it used. Sigh.

Well I wasn't comparing that with the pc. It was being compared to the xbox's gddr3
