Broken Multiplayer... The way forward?

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 7:09 am

My suggestion is pulling the plug, fixing it, and when (and ONLY when) its sorted, they put it out there.
Thoughts?
Yes, that means we cant play, but atm its more likely to put people off than anything else.
Any more ideas?

Na, I think taking it offline completely would piss more people off (especially the loyal fans) more than anything. What is needed are patches (and ones that are not rushed) which solve the issues.

I think in future, all big name first person shooters with an online component should have a beta shortly before release to test the waters. So much could have been avoided if this was the case with Crysis 2.

What I don't understand it how the demo actually worked better than the retail release?

^ I reckon it was patch 1.1 which caused problems (unless I'm wrong and this stuff actually was happening in 1.0). I only started playing the multiplayer recently. Demo definetly had alot less problems ironically...

Fair points. I love the MP, but it would be such a shame if the shocking rep it has atm sticks. If the player base dries up, so will the support, and that would leave it gubbed forever.

The demo was pretty much the beta test for their account system and it didn't work as well. Looks like alot of what is broken in the multiplayer is related to the progress reset bug that was already in the demo.

And yeah I rather would like them to pull the plug and make an attempt on a serious fix than to try and solve it with patching. I somehow doubt that just a single patch can solve the issues since it rather seems that there are problems on 3 ends, the clients MP code, the servers code as well as the entire account backend. Fixing something that seems to be messed up like this, while the entire system keeps runing and not put on hold rather seems absurd.

For sure to pull the plug is a giant leap of faith in their customers and would involve alot of bad publicity, but cmon, everyone noticed that the PC MP account system is seriously broken.

In the 1.0, you could open the console, bung in a short line, and pop to LVL 50, with all the unlocks! Im guessing the 1.1 sorted it, but still, if i let something similar to this slide at my work, i would just leave before i got fired!

Well, I'm no developer, but maybe Crytek can do all the fixes while it runs online? I dunno bout you guys, but this is all just speculating IMO. If they truly have to take stuff down for a short time to fix all the problems, then yeah, go for it. But, if they don't communicate with the community about what they need to do/how long it will take to fix the problems though, people will just get angrier if those fixes don't appear or more issues crop up later on down the road.

Why should they pull it offline when it works perfectly fine for most of us? People need to learn to maintain their network and turn off their firewall.

Well, I'm actually able to play fine with basically all my security (like router firewall lol) on. Still got an exception for my antivirus though. The game says my NAT is strict. There is still a number of issues people have reported with the game though (e.g. multiplayer unlocks not saving).

Really? Getting booted from a server and trying to rejoin the server only to find that everyone else was booted from the server too?

This has happened on many servers, including my own. So unless you have actual data to back up your claims, stop saying things like "most of us".

Well actually, multiplayer works well for me. Front end is a dog, but it would appear im one of the lucky few.
My main concern is that 'most' are having some problems. Add to this the fact that you usually get 2 or 3 decent rounds, them somebody shows up and noclips throught the level headshotting everybody, you tell me if you think its loads of fun, or possibly not?

Bro you're missing it. A Bunch of servers not working proper, hackers, pirates with fake keys, that would be (from my point of view) why they would stop the service BUT i say leave it on and fix the problems one by one.
