Outstanding game. Absolutely loved it.

Didn't know Hanz Zimmer did the soundtrack, but that would explain why I loved the music. Best FPS score ever, in my opinion.

The graphics were spectacular, running at around 30 FPS on extreme settings on my rig (AMD Phenom II 1045T Hexacore Processor, 8gb RAM, ATI Radeon 5570 graphics card). Looks a lot better than Warhead and performs about the same.

Story was solid. No Half-Life 2, but what the hell. Definitely had some good twists, and the characters were pretty solid. Hargreave is truly memorable, and Prophet's surprising impact really shines. Barclay and Strickland were good supporting characters. Lockhart was a douche, but maybe that was intentional. Gould was okay at best, though his role was surprisingly subdued after the first encounter.

Cinematics were very solid. Unlike Call of Duty where the real-time events are underwhelming and melodramatic, this game has me glued to the screen when I lose control. Also unlike most shooters, where you're always sure that something is going to fly in and save you at the last moment, this game at times had me on the edge of my seat thinking "ok.. this is it.. Alcatraz really is about to die."

The gameplay is incredibly addictive. I love being able to shift between abilities with hotkeys.. towards the end when was squaring off with those 4 cloaked Cephs, I realized I was shifting between stealth, power, and armor like a master, and using the environment like another tool. The strategy necessary to succeed in this game is its greatest achievement. You COULD just run in and gun-out everything, but if you're playing on a proper difficulty level, you better be quick. Conversely, if you try to sneak past everything, you damn well better be careful because with one wrong move you might be faced with a platoon of elite alien bastards and their ridiculous weapons. Balance and strategy are key--this is something that is rarely implemented properly. Simply masterful.

I played through on Normal and unlocked all of the suit powers (mostly thanks to that 20,000 point bonus in the last level). I will be playing through again on the highest difficulty.

Haven't played a lot of MP, seeing as how most of you can kick my ass with your eyes closed. I'll get on that once I finish my second playthrough.

I can understand the complaints about 'linearity', but I think Crytek did an incredibe job with what they envisioned. Bravo.

Yeah I beat it 2 times and now I'm doing it again.

You're right about it being addictive.

I can't wait to play it again when crossfire works and the Dx11 patch is out.

I've been a huge Hans Zimmer fan for a long time, but I found the music to be minimalistic and very repetitious for the most part. The menu music won't unstick from my head! LOL I didn't like the first 1/3 of the game, but it got much better afterward. Too bad I was stuck with the catalyst bug and lost 99% of what I earned so couldn't upgrade my suit very much at all.

I'd play it again after the next patch fixes that (hopefully), but the linear aspect of the game got to me. I have played way too many games, so I guess I'm probably being too picky.

I agree , fantastic soundtrack overall.

Prefering the story to half-life 2 at the moment , mainly because valve has left us hanging for years and i still don't know who or what this G-man guy is.

Where was this ? think i missed it or was too tired i didn't notice. Played through normal myself , waiting for dx11 before i try the hardest setting :)

Indeed , i only found i explored to kill more aliens for points or get ammo , the tactical options was a nice thought but some secondary objectives to accompy the main one would have been great like the first crysis.

^Those four stealth Cephs right before you enter the ship and release the virus at the end.. each of them drops 5,000 nanos. But they are HELLACIOUS to fight.. gave me enough to unlock Air Stomp and Cloak Recognition, though.

I think the Tactical Visor was a GREAT touch, since it puts damn near everything useful on your radar (weapons, enemies, explosives, vantage points, vehicles, etc.), and this is a great way to inspire people to strategize (especially once they see 3 heavies and 10 grunts in their sights :P).

In fact, I used pretty much EVERY gameplay element multiple times in my first playthrough. Detaching heavy machine guns, nanovision, all the suit powers, vehicles, C4, grenades, the visor.. EVERYTHING was very handy. Once again, AMAZING gameplay design.

Also, I understand the complaints about AI, as I saw at least a dozen or so instances where an enemy was stuck in a wall, but aside from that, this has got to be the BEST AI in an FPS I've ever seen. Not just because they actually use formation, cover, and flanking tactics, but because they don't just charge in at you unless it's to their advantage, and at times I noticed the aliens would take cover and blindfire in order to draw you out of cover.

As far as linearity, I'd say it's about as linear as Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory or Bioshock in that you have a focused route with a highly open-ended course of action.. but even a game as linear as Modern Warfare is not a problem with me so long as the gameplay supports it, and in the case of Crysis 2 it certainly does. It's not as linear as Half-Life 2 though, which is kind of funny given all the comparisons and complaints.

I'll even go so far as to say that with Crysis 2 on the market, Half-Life 3 has a lot to prove if it wants to claim its throne as SP-FPS king (in terms of graphics and gameplay).

If you haven't noticed, Crysis 2 is probably the best single-player experience I've had since Bioshock, or maybe even Half-Life 2.
