Personal spoiler free review of the singleplayer potion

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 1:13 pm

I can't believe it, Crytek really outdid themself with this one. I never had this much fun with a singleplayer FPS since Half-Life 2, but Crysis 2 is even better then that.
I'm a bit in shock, how people can beat this game in 6 hours. I suggest you pay some attention to the beautiful level design, since I only managed to beat 5 of it's 19 missions yet, and it took me 3 hours for that (I have died only once). Looking at those levels the replayability is really high since they give you quite a lot of options of how to approach level and with the tactic mode youc an identify them all at once instead of searchign for them.

The AI is working much better then it was in the original Crysis. They act very believeable (apart from some smaller mistakes which I'm sure they will be able to fix), and surprised me positively more then once. Those C.E.L.L. soldiers are damn good when it comes to flanking and surrounding the player. Unlike the Koreans, they are working very cautiously, they aren't just sprinting towards you when you cloak.
They actually react now, when they see dead buddies, or don't hear from them through radio for some time.
Can't say too much about the aliens yet, since I haven't met them enough, but those stalkers sure are interesting enemies, being able to walk around so freely along the terrain.

I know, that Crysis 2 doesn't look as good as Crysis 1 does, but since I think Crysis 1 is still the best looking game out there, so it doesn't mean that Crysis 2 does look any bad. It still looks damn good in fact and the improved the lighting is pretty incredible which makes me look over things that have gotten worse such as the textures.

There isn't much to say about the music. It's just amazing, and fits the mood very well.

Things that could be better:
- Alcatraz doesn't talk. I don't need the character talk like a waterfall, but at least some words, like Nomad did, wouldn't have hurt. It's not big deal though.
- Third Person in vehicles. I don't care about it in Jeeps, since I would only use the Mg anyway which is first person, but in the APC I would really like to have first person as the driver, because it's abit stupid to aim in thirdperson, since you don't see everything infront of you. I don't think it would be that hard to do, since there is already a first person APC Hud in Crysis 1 and it would fit in nicely.
- There are still some minor graphical glitches here and there, nothing game breaking for me and I'm sure those can be fixed very easily.
- The already mentioned minor AI issues.
- I would have liked to be able to destroy a bit more of the environments, but it's not big deal either.

Well it's something I don't like about Half-life 2 either. I prefer the player character to talk. Like I said though, it's not too important for me.
