This gallery is of Crysis 1 textures, unmodded (except for the big leaf plant, the beginnings of an ultra resolution texture mod I'm working on):

This gallery is of Crysis 2 textures on the freeway collapse level:

Notice how on some textures such as the one on the police car, are about 20 times higher in detail then the texture on the pavement it's parked on. There's such a large gap, it's beyond the scaling of textures to the size of objects.
Some textures do genuinely appear higher res in Crysis 2 then in the first Crysis, but only on a small number of objects that are seen very frequently throughout the game, such as explosive barrels and cover plates. The vast majority of small objects in Crysis either use photorealistic textures or are just higher in resolution, such as the wicker basket and watermelon.
Some people here have already been at least somewhat successful in unpacking the higher res textures that are already present on the Crysis 2 disk that were not made active in the final commercial version of this game for the PC. So it's clear that version of texture presently in use are in fact, inferior to those that would've been made available through advanced graphics options. Potentially even better then the Crysis or Warhead textures.
Even if EA had told Crytek to have the PC version of the game ready by the next day, how long would it take a roomful of computer programmers and artists to simply change a few lines of code and unlock the higher res textures? Or if EA had said to Crytek "We want the latest build of the game in the next 30 seconds." and Crytek simply wasn't able to make the changes needed since the beta months ago, and beyond, how long would it take for them to make a patch that would allow the usage of these higher res textures?
Also, please keep in mind this thread is specifically about textures, so if you try to defend Crysis 2 by citing it's amazing lighting and HDR effects, expect to be disregarded in the third degree. You can make as many threads as you want comparing the HDR/Bloom/motion blur effects from both games, just try not to equate one dissociative thing to another. The graphics do appear equitable in both games overall, however the textures are clearly lacking in Crysis 2.
