So, I've played through the first level, and I got through to where the squiddy things are, and then one of them kills me. The game then proceeds not to revert me to the most recent checkpoint, but to the first checkpoint in the game, where you rip off the door handle before you get any ammo for your pistol.

What gives? I've played through to the middle/late end of the second level twice, and now, twice, this has happened. Whats up?
