Crysis 2 unofficial .pak extractor - link is too guru3D

Post » Fri Jun 03, 2011 10:14 am

Disclaimer : Please only use this for SP modding. I have no idea if it works on MP and I don't plan on trying. I don't wanna see hacks ingame. Let's keep this on the good side of hacking so Crytek doesn't get pissed in the mean time till there is an SDK.

Hey guys I know everyone wants to be able to mod Crysis 2. Well here ya go. This is an extractor and half way down the page includes a .bms file specifically for Crysis 2.

I don't know if the Crytek folks will allow this so PM me if they have a problem.

Actually here ya go. You can go to guru3D to get the required stuff. This isn't illegal so I doubt they can remove it. But they might.

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?p=3931035

PS: This is an open source tool licensed under GPL. All someone did was create a Crysis 2 script for it.

EDIT: Also read the readme so you can get the files back into the .pak file. Make sure you backup all your files before using this. Also for steam version, make sure you close steam before doing this. It could potentially cause problems.

EDIT2: Here's the command to reimport the files.
Code:
quickbms -w -r With instructions on how to do it.
Instructions :
create a new file and call it reimport.bat
the file must contain the following line:
Code:
quickbms -w -r
go in the folder where you have extracted the file, modify the files you want and DELETE all the others
make a backup copy of the pak archive you want to reinject back
double-click on reimport.bat
do the exact things you did for the extraction
at the end of the process quickbms will show you how many files have been reimported, check if the number is correct.

Also it should be obvious but make sure the tool is in the same place as the .batch file and your working files. Otherwise it will probably error considering there's no installer. The link from guru3D also includes source code so you can use it on other operating systems including PPC based ones.

@Crytek if you don't want the community to hack your game and provide tools, do the right thing and finish up the Sandbox 3 editor and release it. You can't say it doesn't exist because an easy search on the net proves otherwise.

They did say they would release the sandbox 3 editor this summer. Don't blame them. Be patience.

As for configs that are already out to make your SP feel like PC and i applaud them for their hard work. Won't be long before we find more ways to make things work around.

Crytek will eventually give us a patch for later updates fixes and dx10/11.

Why else do i see a DX10 dll file in there? I think someone mentioned they saw dx11 somewhere dunno where.

A lot of stuff was in the leak but it's absent in the final version. DX11/10, sandbox editor 3, and all the custom config CVARS. Do you honestly know exactly how much commands there were in the demo, and leak compared to the full version? It's astonishing just how much they removed. So I wouldn't be as optimistic. Plus they said they would release a full SDK for indy developers and private users. That's like UDK. Sandbox is an entirely different beast then UDK or any other full engine. So again I'll see it when I see it.

Just say thank you for what we can do now, and leave it be. Why say wait when we have something that is capable in the short term until we do get sandbox? (if and when we do.)

well

big thanks for the information

BUT:

wait for crytek-they are working very hard fpr a good game-in my opinion they are not guilty!

they can solve all the problems with patches. and some frinds are working to get a dedicated server tool working to create lan servers to play with your friends!

How about no. I don't understand why you people would rather wait for a sandbox editor that might not even come out instead of using this simple and free tool to start modding yourself.

Also if people can design dedicated server tools why can't people also use this tool to mod Crysis 2? It's the same thing.

If you don't wanna mod your game, and wanna explain all the reasons why you don't. Stay the hell out of my thread. This isn't a discussion on when sandbox editor is coming out, or why we should wait. This is a thread about modding using tools that are already available.

So if you don't have anything to say regarding questions on this tool, mods you have done, or trouble shooting stay the hell out of my topic thank you!

I don't care about the possibility of a sandbox editor. Right now I care about an alternative that is easy to use and is open source. So either use the tool and say thank you, or stay out of my topic.
