The bane of Crysis 2 - Cheating on "Crack"

Post » Thu Dec 31, 2009 12:55 am

Dear EA

We all are grateful for your collective efforts to organize resources to make Crysis 2 possible, but with that being said, we're also greatly insulted by the fact that people are able to download a cracked copy to play the game as though it was a genuine copy - and i haven't even started on the rampant cheating in multi-player.

Wall-hacks, aim-bots, bots etc have surfaced on Youtube videos with increasing frequencies; alas people are now embolden by the fact that nothing happens if they cheat, that it has made a mockery out of players that are true to the spirit of gaming. And if it did so happen that if they are cheating, they probably have nothing to lose - playing on a cracked copy of Crysis 2.

I think it goes without saying that cracked copies and cheating hurts EA's revenues; whether directly or indirectly. And i think the community shares my view that something has to be done sooner, not later.

Cheers

They are aware of this, believe me. They would need to live under a rock not to notice the huge security flaws in Crysis 2.

OP you made very good point.
I laugh at hackers using Unlimited Stealth (cloaked and shooting) hack as I still beat them.
Even in these hard times, with cheaters running rampant, I stay true to PC gaming and Crysis 2. I hold a 3.03 k/d against the plague of cheaters. Let that be the symbol of why cheats will never beat skill.

Symbol, yes. In our struggle, i would prefer if EA would step up efforts to quickly eradicate this problem and put the matters (with an s) to rest as soon as possible.

If Crytek put better copy protection people would be biching, I'm not buying Crysis 2 as long as it has invasive copy protection software. People were biching about it having secure rom before release. Crytek just can't win. Why do you care if someone who pirates the game can play online? How does that hurt you?

Did you even read the OP? A lot of pirates are destroying the MP with extreme hacking/cheating. And it is extremely annoying to realize that not a single one of that jerks will or even can get banned.

I agree, copy protection is a difficult issue. But I a usually have no problem with copy protection, as long as it is not as messed up as some early Securom versions which did not even recognise the original DVD.
And nowadays a lot of game companies made good experiences with systems like Steam and most gamers understand when they are used.

But Crytek itself allowed that the pre-release was stolen from right under their noses, then made an completely unnecessary appeal about the evils of piracy and THEN completely missed to implement ANY kind of protection at least for the MP part.
Even if most new games will get cracked sooner or later - most game companies are still able to protect at least official servers from pirates and allow only owners of an original key to play.

If Crytek doesn't put copy protection, then what will it be? A loss leader in the gaming industry to set examples for other firms what not to do in the gaming market?

It hurts to know that something is a "public good" when it should have never been in the first place; for example, paying for a service that is free. How then does it make you feel?
